need an URGENT help of a DOCTOR

i was a lil late in chechkin this thread... medpal and hummer have told you most of the things... but if you want any more info we are all here to help you..
and dont worry i am sure your mom will be fine.. all our wishes are with you..
wishing your mom a speedy recovery...

Yeah Man, Its gonna be ok.

You take care and dont get too stressed yourself.

This is a part and parcel of life and medicine has evolved so much now that treatment your mums ailment is fairly routine nowadays with almost assured good results.

I pray that your Mum is back to normal soon. You have my support too.

hey Ayan(i hope i got it right),
Though it may sound pseudo, i sincerely wish ur Mom a speedy recovery!!

All we can do is to get tests suggested by the doc done and that is a must coz that will give u an idea of whats the cause- if is just stress related angina or a block!!

While we have to take all the precautions and do the necessary investigation/medication, also hope for the best!!
I know u r going thru some tough time emotionally and u cant help being anything but very emotional and sentimental but be a lil more bold too!!

Not to cheer u up but a fact-
just a few months back, one of my bestest frnds(catch his pic on orkut) mom was admitted overnight with exactly same symptoms as of ur mom's and trust me- she is 'Kickass' fine as of now!!
Yeah, she literally kicks ass of us kids when we play truant or mess up, but an excellent mom to all of us nonetheless!!

What had happened is maybe she had a few sleepless nights due to some social function and some family related stress(younger son not studying well and financial and... all typical middle class issues) and the daily bump and grind of city life and then this!!
A week's R&R at the local hospital and she was back to kicking our asses for not listening to her!!
Now we gladly oblige all her wishes!!

p.s. Speaking of middleclass issues,
My dad was just out of hospital after his angiography and docs had advised him a bypass- reason- 3 blocks of varying degree!!
He was a bit hesitant as it involved a major surgery and i was not exactly financially independent yet and he doesnt like Docs due to one serious childhood trauma-
and i met with my accident!!
He had to stay at the hospital for 5 months, 24x7 literally, no time to eat or bathe due to my condition and most ppl looking at his state thought he was some wardboy!!:(
Mom would go to work from home in the morning, back to hospital with supplies of fresh clothes and other stuff in the evening after work, then home late at night, off to work next day!!
Even back at home and still bedridden then, he had to attend to me 24x7 as Mom would not be able to do it!!
So i dont think i even have the right to say i love them so much that i gave up my MS in the US for them:no: (in fact i would be insulting them even if i mention it:( )
due to the Financial Burden they would have to bear which i felt was not justified enough to make an honest living, though i am 101% sure they would have never said no!!

Its more than 4 years now and he still hasn't got his surgery done coz after what i went thru after my surgery, his wildest fears resurfaced!!
Now when he is late from his work at nights, Mom gets so frantic at times, coz we hope nothing is wrong with him!!
I have prayed/begged/scolded him several times to call us and keep us informed abt his whereabouts esp if he's late, but he forgets most of the times and i make sure i call him up and keep a chk on him!!:(

an update :

his mother is feeling well now and she may be discharged on friday.

she is to undergo angiography tomorrow or day after.

so all te members prayers have really shown good effects.

wishing good recovery to you mom, iosoft.

@bikey : nice said pal, with your moral high you win half the battle against disease.

Bikey's attitude is amazing.... I keep talking abt him to some of my other friends who dont know him.....

People say I have a nice positive attitude, but I tell them abt Bikey and his attitude.

Way to go Bikey...... you really are an inspiration !!! Now, dont be so shy and all :p ..... What I am saying is true and I am sure many others will back me up on this :p

@ Ayan ---- Good that your mom is better.....tell her to take care and follow the doctor's instructions to the last letter. That is very important. I still hope your mom makes a full recovery and doesnt suffer anymore.

post what is the conclusion of the angiogram report. and also the echo report if done.

Edit: Currently i have access to some very good caediologists in mumbai. if you post it asap i can take advice from them and convey it to you.
Dr. Bhattachary and his support staff , Dr. Periera (cardiologist, Bombay Hospital, has done highest number of angiography in asia and is one doctor whose opinion / judgement i highly respect.) and many other docs / technicians in the cath lab of Bombay Hospital. As also Dr. Matthews of Chennai who does a lot of angiogram / angioplasty in mumbai in various hospitals.

Most of the docs wont see the cd / film unless you or somebody personally gets it and consults them ...but exceptions can be made with these extremely busy doctors ...and since am virtually in the hospital since last few days for my dad's case ...i will see what i can do .....

please note the doctor who is treating ur mom is the best judge ....there is no substitute for that .....but there is no harm in taking opinions of wise , seasoned doctors ...

rightly said deejay.

i am right now in clinic to see an emergency patient will see the video tomorrow morning and will update.

meanwhile do as i told you please scan and mail me the copy of hard printed report which may help me more.

take care

I'm just reading this today. I'm immediately contacting some local doctors as they might have connections in calcutta.

i'm so sorry my grandpa aint here anymore else u cud have contacted mr Biswas i think head of some dept in kothari.i have contacts with ppls working in birla and ruby too i'll contact them ASAP.i'll try my best to help.
btw my dad knows stuffs like this i'll let him read it.
do tell us what is the status.
our prayers are with you.

for any serious consequence if you feel your in need of ANY dont hesitate to ask i'll try to do my best from here, whatever it may take.

My dad had 2 times off beat of heart .. once did ECG and he is on homeopathy medicine and hes very good. its called "gold drop or goldrop" a amazing heart medicine.

my moms mom did a pacemaker surgery recently from ruby hospital. if it ultimately gets down to pacemaker dont worry much pacemakers are known to keep peoples 100% healthy.
one more thing ask bout tht goldrop that drug is amazing on long use , when i was in bangalore my dad in tension felt dizzy and just laid down in hotel , he was having some off beats we were scared .. after a drop of goldrop and rest hes fit.
here are some stuffs you shud know.
if anyone feels pain in heart and off beats do these things.
1> take the pulse note with hand how rapid or slow is it from 70 to 80 range.
2> dont make him/her get up down through stairs AT ALL.
3> lie him down with head in a little up position.
4> open up his shirt.
5> if it is offbeat use goldrop "some drops" if psycian is not readily available. you can ask some physician bout the efefctiveness of that drug.
6> drink little water.

@iosoft :

thats a huge file of 44 MB. it will be a strain to my capped connection to download all these.

secondly to review it i need to be a cardiologist which i am not.

please send me a scanned copy of angiography and 2-D echo test reports or attach them here.

thanks take care

Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences
Dear Mr. Debnath,
I have gone through your e-mail in which you have provided the details
of your mother's complications. Our hospital has a panel of renowned
cardiologists. You are advised to arrive at the Hospital for necessary
treatment of the patient.
You can come to the Hospital on any day between Monday to Saturday,
8.30 am onwards. Our OPD charges for consulting a cardiologist are Rs.
250/-.
In case a Coronary Angiogram ( CAG ) is required to be done on her on
the advice of the cardiologist, the packages for the angiogram are as
follows :

General Ward : Rs. 10,900/-
Semi Private Room : Rs. 14,900/-
Private Room : Rs. 19,600/-

Along with the package you choose, the patient has to undergo a blood
test that is, the pre-cath profile which will cost you Rs. 1, 200/-
and the cost of the angiogram CD will be Rs. 400/-. Both these costs
will have to be borne by you over and above the CAG charges. The
charges mentioned above are inclusive of the bed-charges, medicines,
consumables and Doctor?s fees.

Depending on the CAG report, the further course of treatment shall be
decided. In case an Open Heart Surgery is required, the packages are :

General Ward : Rs. 1,27,000/-
Semi Private Room : Rs. 1,37,000/-
Private Room : Rs. 1,80,000/-

Along with the package you choose, the patient has to undergo a blood
test that is, the pre-surgery profile which will cost Rs. 4,950/-, to
be charged extra . Valve, conduit or grafts, if used, will be charged
extra.
These package-charges are inclusive of doctor?s fee, medicines,
consumables and bed-charges. The package is for a 9-day stay in the
hospital. Also, the patient is advised to arrange for 4-6 blood donors
prior to the surgery.

In case she requires a coronary angioplasty, then the expenses for the
coronary angioplasty ( PTCA) will be as provided below :

Prior to the procedure, there will be a blood-test ( which is a
collection of several blood-tests) called the pre-cath profile
costing Rs. 1,200 /-.

Then you may opt for one of the three levels of admission :

General Ward ( Dormitory system ) : Rs. 49,950 /-

These package-charges are inclusive of doctor?s fee, medicines,
consumables and bed-charges. The package is for a 3-day stay in the
hospital.

There are separate charges for the stents that are to be used for
PTCA. The stent charges are from Rs. 32,000/-(non-medicated ) to Rs.
1,30,000/- (medicated). The latest model stent which costs Rs.
1,30,000/- is a drug-eluting stent called Cypher.

The patient?s relatives are requested to make arrangements for
themselves as no such accommodation is offered by the hospital. You
can enquire the shopkeepers just outside the hospital gates regarding
hotel accommodation for relatives.

I hope this satisfies your queries.

Yours sincerely,
RTIICS

the 2-d echo report is normal so the generalised heart tissue strength is relatively normal.

now comes the angiography part,

i cant get what you want to decipher here. but seems your mothers one blood vessels is nearly 100% blocked and other is also majorly blocked. so that may require intervention. which may be an Open heart bypass surgery or angioplasty which can be done via catheter.

do update the printed or written report.

As I have told you eairlier that we are from a MIDDLE-CLASS Family.
My Father is retaired school teacher and I am just a MCA student.

Our budget is around 1 Lak. Can any of you suggest me where my mother can get the best treatment (BYPASS) withing our budget in KOLKATA ?!!

Pls, suggest.... my brain is just not working.

UPDATE

On relative, friends and others' suggestion, we have contected -
Rabindranath Tagore International Institute of Cardiac Sciences (RTIICS)
As a package it will cost 1.35Lak.

After going through the report and te angio-CD, the Dr. told us that the angio report done by PG is not complete

So, he needs current ECG and after that a CT-ANGIOSCOPE report to make proper decision.

But, there is also a problem, the RTIICS Dr is going out-of-station for puja-vacation, so we have to wait till 6th Oct.
QUESTION 1
Do any of you know what is the charge of CT-ANGIOSCOPE ?

QUESTION 2
You have seen my mother's report. Is it safe to keep her at home for just a week or max 10 days, very carefully and under proper medication ?

BTW, how is your mum feeling now??
Where is your mother now- at home under some medical supervision or at the hospital??:S
This question you should be asking the docs at the hospital where she is admitted or if she is home already then that doc who is going on leave asking him does he take full responsibility of your mom's well being while he is vacationing!!:cool2:
Is he the only Doc/Technician there??:S

The PG Dr is already GONE..... to London.

Actually, in both cases (PG or RTIICS) nothing can be done before 'puja vacation' so PG is saying that - we take her back and contact them after puja in the out-door and then they will give the Date.

RTIICS is also like that, the main heart-surgent is not available before puja.

and if we still admit her then we have to pay 950/- per day (seperate from the package). Hope you understand the situation for a middle-class family.

My Mother is just fine, 100%. No pain..... nothing.

Also, she has become a temp nurse there, doing things like -

0 Going to call real nurse if a patient needs help.

0 Going to bathroom herself.

0 Sitting, standing, small walking etc.

............ just as normal.

so, Is it safe to keep her at home for just a week or max 10 days, very carefully and under proper medication with ZERO WORK ?

@ iosoft :
1: CT Angiography : it is a non invasive procedure done by way of an enhanced CT scan of the heart with special stress of blood vessel system of heart. It creats a virtual tour of heart`s blood supply.

It may be costing around 5-6k depending on hospital, machine, city.

q-2 :
this is tricky one.

it may be sae to take your mother home, but it can prove to be a double edged sword.

you have to be extra carefull about her health at home, make her comfortable in rest. also make sure she does not receive any kind of emotional trauma or stress.

take medicines regularly.

and keep a doctors contact if the need arises in case of emergency.

then pray for durga ma.

hope this helps.
