I have a 12-year-old Kindle which is still going strong. If you're planning to not side load ( you get what I mean) books, then Kindle (though you can do that too using a slightly tedious way and after having converted the book into mobi or azw3 format) can be a good choice as the Kindle store will give you better prices and more choice of titles.
If you want to read color docs, comics and magazines along with regular books, and also are big on side loading, then Kobo Libra color or the Kobo clara color would be my pick. However, having never used a Kobo device, can't talk about its build quality or longevity. Also, Amazon is going full steam ahead with its evil corp policies regarding digital ownership so I am not a big fan but to each his own.
Kindle launched its color ereader last year but that had significant issues that have been resolved now(according to reports), however they are not selling it in the India store, I think. Kobo, on the other hand, had disappeared from the Indian market in around 2015 I guess, (that is when I stopped seeing their devices in Crossword stores). They came back last year and are selling on Amazon and Flipkart but it remains to be seen how long they will be around for this time.
