Need help in buying a new HD Ready TV

chaos .. please explain the dynamic resolution thing to me .. i havent been able to get it till now ..

how are the spatial and motion resolution different ... i really dont know and am asking a genuine question ????

I've said time and again and I say it once again static spatial resolution is not the same as perceived resolution when watching actual content. LCDs blur the image massively and the perceived resolution is a lot lot lower than the actual resolution.
Does this mean, that a 720p 42inch Plasma is better than a 1080p 42 inch LCD?

@mods: delete this post of mine if found too OT

Go without any thought for 1080p LCD only.LCD is light weight, consume less power, have a longer lifespan and does not have problem of screen burn which may be in plasma. I have seen two instances of plasma tv going fut.
Brand you can decide though samsung LCDs are not behind in any way from sony.

I would advise you to be sincere and familiar with topic. Never reach any conclusion without experience. I hope you would understand

any sources for you info?

I'd reckon you do your math first before speaking to senior members like this. At least take a look at the reputation meter before making any aggressive and potentially flaming comments.
@TH : ignore the kid, and lets wait for Chaos dada's reply, i m eager to read that.

Don't start differentiating between members on the basis of post count or rep points :) Everybody is here to learn, and nobody's perfect.

But yeah, what he said about LCD vs Plasma is not true anymore. :ohyeah:

For SD content and DVD a plasma will look significantly better. For high def content, it will be close with the LCD probably having slightly more detail. However it'll suffer from motion blur in fast action scenes. If you wish to use it as a computer monitor with static screens all the time, I'd suggest you get an LCD. Otherwise its a plasma all the way.

well yes but then again in a video ,u won't always have a moving image lets say they are interviewing a person the person will be moving but the the background image could be static.or for instance in movie troy i was testing a HD DVD version that i got free for xbox HD DVD addon, where when the greece army stands in front of troy when they show the soldiers standing u can see the detail in their armor which they are wearing in 1080p video.also plasma also suffers from motion blur.
for that matter even ur own eyes when u watch a moving object u can see motion blur , its only when the objects comes to a standstill that u can notice the fine detail .but for SD content yes plasma are good particularly the ones which have a resolution 1024x768 since it has very less upscaling to do. But FHD plasma are no better for SD they equaly suck.

for those of u who dont have a clue about what we are talking about chaos and myself were having a good discussion in another forum.:P but discussion is also now in TE.

well thats not true 42inch 1080p lcd.plasma is better, but it depends upon what u are going to watch.a 42 inch 720p plasma will be better for SD,while for HD the 1080p plasma/lcd will show the very fine details.

even though burn in has reduced in plasma over the years ,if u donot take care during the first 100 hours burn in can happen, and remember their is no warranty for that. Also plasma tvs still suffer from IR.

my suggestion would be still be to go with the samsung 6 series,or if u can wait a little pick up the new philiphs lcds, these two come very close to the best ie the pioneer kuros.

well philips has some long way to go before they can match other lcds like samsung let alone pioneer kuro in terms of contrast and black levels.

^^ what does TH dada say bout this? He's the display guru and has a philips too, so lets here it straight from the ... ahem TH's mouth

i think u are missing the point, and of course i know kuros produce the blackest black, but a tv is just not about the black, right

and secondly u were at fault to say that philips lcd are not good enough, hence i gave u the link.

now the main reason is that at the price point of 80 to 90 k the 6 series samy and the soon too be launched philips are the best.

series 6 is quite old now ,series 7 and 8 are soon going to be launched in india to counter the new philips, and trustedreview is yet to review them, but digital versus as reviewed both the new philips and the new samsung and they have put the series 8 ahead of philips.

as far as sony there products occasionally outperform the other lcds but being a sony it is expensive the soon to be launched sony X4500 ,which HDTV test.co.uk & digitalversus will be reviewing shortly which in uk called the Z4500 will IMO MIGHT be the lcd tv to beat.

No clue about the latest Philips panels, sorry. Been out of the entire LCD HDTV buying scene for a while now.

However, I *have* auditioned the Panasonic and Samsung plasmas. Very very close, but the Panasonics have slightly better contrast, ergo deeper blacks, while the Samsung colour reproduction looked better, by a very very small margin.

SD viewing was a wash, DVDs upscaled by the PS3 were excellent on the Panasonic. Samsung was ok, strictly ok. Panel scaling was better on the Panasonic (TH42PV80), however, it doesn't have the 100hz feature of the PX80 sold elsewhere.

I'm waiting to see if someone gets the PZ81 series here, which I will probably purchase. Viewing will be ~25% HD,BR movies and PS3, ~60% SD DVDs upscaled and STB TV, and ~15% PC usage.

Of course, if someone's willing to sponsor a Kuro for me, kindly PM. I will send across my HDFC account number.

TH just wait and buy a Kuro :P. Thats what I'm doing. Why skimp? Its a one time investment that'll last for a very long time.

i think the new philips lcd are arriving in croma in about a week, the 7 series will be around 70-80k ,the 9 series should be around 100k+.

Looking forward to seeing them live ,after all the hype, hope the picture and looks are upto the mark
