Hey Friends,

I am facing trouble while playing over LAN with my friends. I ll give you a background of what we all are doing right now -

1. Everyone is using a laptop (Different windows/versions etc)
2. Games we play - Age of Empires 3 & CS 1.6
3. All are in the same room

4. One of the user creates a secured Ad HOC network & remaining users connect using Wi-Fi.
5. Once all are connected, we launch the game & go to multiplayer settings.

The Problem -

Not all players are shown in the game, a lot of permutations & combinations need to be done. Restart & all "jugadbazi" needs to be done. But it may be in our favor always..

Solution Needed :

If i buy a wi-fi router, will it solve my problem ?

This friday 8 players would be there, so please advice how to go forward, what to do ?? Any software which can help ?

Thanks in advance !

okay, list down the following:

Which LAN cards? Brand and capability (10/100 or 10/100/1000 mbps etc.)
Are they all onboard? (I guess they are since you all are using laptops)
Which router are you using right now?

Ok, We are not involving any wired LAN connection at the moment, we are using Wi-Fi to connect.

LAN - Realtek RT8168C(P)

WAN - Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN.

The above is config for my laptop, my friends will have different configurations. And yes, all onboard.

No router currently being used, creating AD HOC network using one of the laptop. Would buying a router help ?

Thanks

Yes, it would, at least theoretically. It would free up the host laptop's resources and it will give better performance, and the router should give better network performance than an ad hoc network. But in real world scenario you might run into some problems, but if you sort them out, it will generally deliver a better experience.
