PC Peripherals need new cpu

procc - q8200 - 9k

mobo - Gigabyte G31 Chip mobo - 2.5k(No overclocking)/Gigabyte EP45-DS3L - 6.4k(also get an aftermarket cooler if he is doin heavy overclcokin)

ram - 2x2gb Transcend - 2200 ( pi black from kmd for abt ~ 2.7k)

hdd - seagate 500gb 7200.12 - 3000

optical drive( go to store and check the sound .. i am using a samsung which is quite loud while writing .. check lg also .. each one has his own preference) - 1.1k

cabinet - cm elite 330 - 1.8k/antec 300 ~ 3.5k

psu - corsair vx450 - 4k

gpu - palit 4850 - 8k

monitor - dell e1909w - 7.2k

a phenom quad would definitely beat the above mentioned intel based quad .. not by much in gaming( a little) but more when it comes to applications and rendering)

I could bang the desk and say that Phenom II X4 920 and 940 Black Edition will be miles ahead of the above config.

For Intel, check Q9400 that costs around 12k. It has 3times L2 cache and higher clock speed.

modified config:

Phenom II X4 920: 10k-10.5k or Q9400: 12k
Biostar TA790GX mobo: 5.5k or MSI P45 Neo-F: 5k
2x2Gb DDR2 800MHz RAM: 2.5k
Samsung 2033: 7.8k
Western Digital or Seagate 500GB HDD: 3k
Cooler Master CM690 cabinet: 2k
Powersafe Gold 500W - 2.7k
Palit GTS250 : 9k-9.5k

Few changes .. Instead 2033 SW get 2233SW FULL HD >. Also I won't vouch for that Powersafe might be good but you can get CX400 for 3.0xk from Newegg...

Phenom II X4 920 has great performance and easily beat E8XX and Q8XXX so better off with it and 790GX and Phenom II provide enough platform for future upgrade and won't bottleneck upcoming graphics card..

Since you only want an intel quad core setup, here is a midrange config:

Quad Core Q8200 2.33 GHz Q8200 9000
Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L OR MSI P43 NEO F 5500/ 4935
Transcend 2*2 gb 2200
Western Digital Sata 2 250 GB 2250
OPTICAL drive 1300
Corsair 450W Power Supply (VX450W) 3950
Zebronics Bijli (Without 400W SMPS) 1200
Palit HD 4830 512MB DDR3 256Bit 7725
Samsung LCD 18.5 '' 933 SN 6875

TOTAL APPROX: 40000/-

if fullHD, he would have to go for high end GPU and it will be totally out of budget.

Blows the budget :(

The guy im suggesting this too doesnt mind AMD but keeps cribbin about it like a noob always saying intels better so i guess Q8200 it is...

okay. better not force him to get AMD. such guys will blame the processor even when dvd burn fails :)

yes. in that case Q8200 seems to be the choice

that's some line

@ Amitash: what's the problem with E7400/E7300 on a solid P31 mobo like GA-P31-ES3G

How about this one here:

E7400 @ 5.9K
GA-P31-ES3G @3K
2X2 GB Transcend/kingston @ 2.5K
K/B+Mouse @ .5K
Gfx Card: 4850 @ 8K
VX450W @ 3.9K
DVD-RW: LG or Samsung 22X @ 1.1K
Speakers: VS 4121 @ 2.9K
UPS: APC 650VA @ 2.9K
Monitor: Samsung 2233WS @ 10K
HD: 500GB Seagate @ 2.9K
CM Elite @ 2K

Total: Around 43K

AMD Phenom II 720 Rs. 8k

Gigabyte 780G Rs. 4.5k

Seagate 500GB Rs. 3k

Transcend 2x2GB Rs. 2.1k

Zebronics Bijli Rs. 1.1k

Zebronics PRO Rs. 2850

HD4850 from KMD Rs.7.5k

Samsung S223W Rs. 10k

Samsung DVDRW 1.1k

Much better then most rigs here. The X3 720 is also an hell of a OC'er so if you wanna OC it your good to go.

Yup.. No choice other than Q8200 but you may also consider Q6600 G0 stepping too... Nice OCer but still lack in tech like its a 65nm and runs too hot.. power consumption is high..So better stick with Q8200

^^ i7 920/940: 13k-15k

X58 mobo: 12k-14k

6gig ram (being triple channel and 1gig on each slot doesn't make any sense): 9k

price till here: 33k-35k atleast.

don't forget that X58 doesn't have onboard GPU.

Now, what can he buy for remaining 7k. FYI, he need everything excepe k/b and mouse.

You may have heard a lot about core i7 but I, among few, know it's architecture inside out!!!!

yes. in that case Q8200 seems to be the choice
