okies, although that might be an issue as he has his mind set on buying it after the CAT (18th) and i donno if he'd wanna wait :P

any chance he can pick up a pre-modded psp slim? and yeah, should i send him back to 'our' shop or alfa or what?

as for the firmware, yeah i haven't had any problems yet. i've heard of socom tactical strike not working on 3.52 but that could be due to a whole number of reasons. i have the game but no disk space to try it yet. btw, 4gb isn't enough either. wish we had 16gb memory sticks :P

I think a good bet for a premodded PSP will be to look in Ninja Traders near Crawford market (i.e if you are in Mumbai).
Look for their phone number on Google. (I think they are an official reseller of XboX. So you should find their number easily).

One suggestion to all those buying a new psp.

1.> Buy a PSP Slim any f/w version doesnt matter.

2.> Buy a seal packed original Sony Mem Stick not the fake one. [Let it be costly , later you wont regret]

To check if its original or fake.

1.> Insert it in your PSP

2.> using XMB goto mem information by pressing the Triangle button

3.> It should show "MagicGate = Supported" anything other than this the stick is fake. [will post a screenshot later if required]

2GB Original - 2.3K

4GB Original - 3.1K

These are the rates what i got from my friend.

hey, i am interested in handheld gaming. Now, PSP plays games, but how much does the game cost? Does it run only original games or "ahem" games also, i mean are there any modded PSPs available? If it runs "ahem" games, whats the price of the "ahem" games?

and can i view xvid, divx movies on the PSP? Where should one buy PSP from? Should one buy modded PSP or original PSP and mod it later?

Basically, i want a portable gaming solution which doubles up as a mp3/movie player too. I have heard that Sony might launch a new version of PSP soon:

These are the rates what i got from my friend.

sony.co.in lists a 2gig card at 2350, and a 4gig card at 3350 (and i paid 3850 for mine a little over a week ago :@ )

lol, he is too lazy like us to search thru threads. ok, just tell me one thing: is it possible to mod PSP and how much do the modded games cost?

See my dear friend.

1.> You get a PSP Slim f/w might be 3.60 or higher

2.> It cannot play Divx or Xvids

Only H.264 or Mpeg4[not divx/xvid] + AAC/Mp3 Audio in .Mp4 container

[To put in simple words you will have to re-encode all your videos

to PSP format using Media Coder or SUPER which are free encoders.]

3.> UMD is a propriety format by Sony so sorry no ahem disc's are available

only original ones are available and they are above 1K.

4.> But if you are able to flash your PSP with a ahem firmware like 3.71M33-2

then you can download ISO's of the games from ahem sites and load the

ISO's on the memory and play they on ur PSP.

[So no ahem disc's but only ahem ISO's are available]

[Dont ask me where to get the ahem ISO's]

[Regarding flashing with ahem f/w like 3.71M33 is a tough job so read a lot

before flashing with ahem f/w's a skilled person who has earlier moded PSP's

will help you here , or get it modded from the shop if they are offering that

service]

5.> And one suggestion buy a seal packed mem stick original as the fake

mem sticks continuously corrupt the data on the mem stick.[Very Imp]

Hope that answers all the qtns. :)

thanks a lot bro :) so one can play divx/xvid movies by converting it to PSP format. Is the conversion quality good? Now, since i'll have to flash the PSP, should i buy it from Sony World and get it modded or should i buy a pre-modded one? I guess the warranty would be void if i flash the PSP.
One more query, you said that the ahem ISOs are available, are they normal ISOs, i mean can i burn it to a CD/DVD or do i need a UMD?

just out of curiosity, what's the price of a psp from official sony shops?

edit: the sony website says 8990/-. i assume that would be the price of the slim because they don't have any other model listed. compared to 8.5k grey. not bad.

@monty - As you are gonna flash the PSP anyhow no point in getting from sony world get it from anywhere flashing voids the warranty for sure.

And as nuke said u copy the .iso files on the mem stick , thats why ppl buy

2GB/4GB/8GB Mem Stick for PSP to load the ISO's.

If u are getting a first hand premodded 3.71 M33-2 get it.

If u get a non modded one then flash it at ur own risk ask some1

knowledgeable to do it for you.

Get only the SLIM version as it light and has more battery life and more RAM too.[AFAIK]

The older phat one might be 7.5K but dont get it its damn heavy.

hehe :) thanks a lot @Quaddy!!! That clears most of my doubts.

Err... i got 2 more doubts:

1) Whats the size of game ISOs?

2) Is PSP Mod a soft mod? i.e. can one play ahem ISOs only by flashing the firmware? Currently my PS2 has a modchip, so that's a hardware mod.

thanks bro :) . What should be the best place to get a PSP from?

1) Palika Bazaar, Delhi (pre-modded)

2) Sony World (un-modded: will need to be flashed later)

3) US (pre-modded or un-modded): Is it worth getting it from US?
