you should atleast spend on a Xonar DX in for a noticeable difference in SQ . YOu are better offf with your onboard soundcard rather than opting for a 1-2K card.

True, i would also invest in ASUS Xonar, despite the fact that OP only needs cheap sound card as his onboard chip died.

LOL,
he said replace the onboard audio . that does not mean that his onboard audio is dead.

(@OT) does it ?
My onboard audio is acting wierd dont know what problem is.in middle of game or movie the popup comes and says jack plugged and unplugged.Tried using previous drivers and latest drivers. So just to replace it i need a card and my mobo is out of warranty.Anybody has any solution.

Even a Quantum Rs.150 sound card sounds better than many onboard sound cards.

@OP: A creative audigy 7.1 is excellent VFM sound card and costs around 1.5k. It will give you a considerable difference when compared with onboard audio. I hope you have a decent set of speakers (2.5k+) or headphones

Next option is a used Xtrememusic X-fi or a used Xonar DX, but those are hard to find.
