hey thks quady after reading your post..most of the things i hav confirmed...............

i had msi in mind...but after reading manual asus a8ne i m tilting towards it...but still.....i had bad xperience with asus........also heard it has some fan probs(wht fan????mobo does hav fans???)..is it safe going with it...and ya....wht r this vtg issues with msi which chaos and darky(in another forum ) was pointing.....and yup i guess no shop in lamy will allow me to get that 17th week procc(on my demand)...righto????

regarding monitor....how much will that cost?????and btw r the benq dvd writers available till now????

ASUS A8N-E is a gr8 mobo , also ASUS have some gr8 service here.
If u had a bad exp with one product doesnt mean all are bad.
Very few ppl here go for MSI just becoz ASUS has gr8 service here.

17' CRT approx 8K for the 2 samsungs i mentioned.
19' CRT dont have any idea but approx like 12-13K [not sure].

Benq has some gr8 DVD Writers.
Best is DW1640 i was hunting like mad for it in Mumbai. Cost:- 3650
Not available in Mumbai try if u get lucky

Benq DW 1620 & DW 1620 Pro are also gr8. Cost Approx 3200-3400
Available at Prime ABGB.

All Benq Drives come with 2Yrs Warranty rest all comw with 1Yr.

If u dont want benq u ca also get a Pioneer DVR109.
This is all i can recommend.

@blade I inquired for the same prices couple of weeks back in delhi but i was quoted around 24K odd for the leadtek AGP cards... Are you sure prices are correct cause the AGP price seems too low to me... I bought two darn XFX (No offence meant I also own a XFX 6800 GT)... If i would have known i would have gone in for leadtek...

@edit I bought PCI-E for 22.5K XFX 6800 GT... But still i cannot beleive that Leadtek costs 17K for AGP...
Yep the prices are from the leadtek disty himself. Your prices cud well be on the older stock. You can pm me for the guys e-mail address or i can forward you the mail that i received. XFX has still not reduced their prices still 22-23k whereabouts !

The BenQ 1640 is available in Chennai as Raghu pointed out. U can contact Eddy or Bottle, provided they're free and ask them to get it for u. U can send a DD for the writer + freight. As for the MOBO, the problem with the FAN is the Chipset fan. It fails faster than any other chipset fan. But what I did after it stopped running was remove the top plate on the fan and it has not failed since then. Make sure that the proccy that u get is a Venice ( ADA3000AA4BP on the proccy if its a 3000+ and ADA3200AA4BP if its a 3200+ ). I would recommend u to get a 3200+ coz' if the proccy that u get does not OC that well, u would lose the 200 MHz adv. that the 3200 has over the 3000.

thats my worry...i already hav mobo which need to press reset along with power on...now if i face this fan problem that will b totally annoying 4 me......so wht do u say msi or asus????i wont overclock hell lot...as i havent tried it b4...and chances r there as soon as i get it i wont try overclocking on it.........after some time will get decent rams and then will surely try

Check out the latest xbitlabs review about the Leadtek PCI-E 6600Gts where they had almost no overcloking potential at all.(Yeah it was a SLI kit but that doesn't entirely justify the horrible oc results.)

This is simply FYI since I don't usually like to pimp stuff that I own, and chances are I'm shifting to a higher model soon.

same site - same author - his previous review on 03/25/2005

We were very pleased with the overclocking potential of the WinFast PX6600 GT TDH: we managed to lift the core frequency to 650MHz, i.e. 150MHz above the default clock rate! For this overclocking test we installed an additional 120mm fan to blow at the card and tested it in an open testbed. We don’t recommend to you to repeat this experiment without improving the standard cooling of the card. The memory, unfortunately, couldn’t work at frequencies above 1020MHz – there would appear various artifacts on the screen. We could have probably got a score of megahertz more if we had installed additional heatsinks on the memory chips, but 1000MHz default clock rate is already high.

With the 6600GTs, a nominal overclock of 8-12% seem to be the general trend (as stated by AT). I think I can oc mine to 575/1050 w/ bare stock cooling.

Yeah OC'ing is a game of luck. But BFG is still the top dog when it comes to NV cards. And I'm not saying this coz I own one.And the BIG cards are cheaper to boot.

the bigbyteindia site doesnt mention any big card....it mentions abt xfx and leadtek......i guess they r the distributor big cards...m i wrong?????

yup frm bigbyteindia.com i got the link 4 big-tek.com.....but it wasnt mentioned on bigbyteindia site so i was confused.......but big-tek is also an indian site.....in contact mumbai address was given...thks 4 that

The MSI Neo4 Platinum looks promising. It also has Firewire which the A8N-E does not. If the other members agree, u can go for this board. Else, u can go for the A8N-E. It is a good board and the fan is a minor annoyance. Quad said that his cousin will come from The States in Dec. Maybe u could ask him to get the Zalman NB47J passive cooler for the NB chip. Rest assured, the A8N-E is solid.

c......i follow strongly wht quad and darky says..........but the thing.....is my old config is jus 6 months old....and still i m going 4 upgradation becoz of this strange mobo problem........i changed the board thrice...still its as it is.........then i thght it mayb a smps fault....which i changed now. to 450w...but no luk......so i was thinking 4 msi....yup many ppl agree with that...but less ppl had tried this board....and i think less ppl buying this board is not a valid reason to avoid the board.......
also i havent overclocked b4....so its not that i m looking 4 a board which must overclk to high end...jus need a decent system which shdnt giv probs till atlest 3yrs........but if members think asus a8ne is better than msi than i will go 4 it....since i too hav no idea abt the services provided by msi here......

Then it could be that ur power or reset switch could be faulty.

or the wires from those switches to the m/b.
Could you describe your problem in detail. (besides just mentioning that you have to press power + reset togather to start the m/c.) for e.g. what exactly happens when you press the power switch only.
because 3 m/b having the same cold boot problem is very unlikely.

well the first mobo which i had....worked fin 4 15 days xactly.....then when i used to pressed power on....the system starts(hdd led used to glow...also the inside fan on cpu and smps worked fine).....but the bios beep which we used to get while start up that was missing...and monitor was lik as off....as if nuthin happened...at that time i tried the reset on button and continuously pressing start on...but system was as it is..........i went to the vendor told him i guess i hav a faulty board...so plz replace it...without much detail he changed my mobo..........

the new one when i switch on.........it also was same lik the old one no replies.......but this time after pressing reset twice the bios used to occur........when i press first reset...since its a via board(a7v 400mx).......it used to do sys check(all fans off for a sec then again on).......on 2nd reset i used to get bios beep...then monitor crispy sound..then sys started............

again i told the dealer prob re appeared...he again told tocome and change the board.......this time i went with smps to replace....but he told it mayb board prob....so replaced that....and again left and tried..agaion it reappeared(third time)

i thght to ignor the prob and work but once while doing so i pressed the rreset button hard..and my hdd pin got brok(may b som high vtg )........by paying 750 bucks xtra i got new disk(that disc was jus 3 months old...and pin break is not under warranty)........again i went to dealer and told such things happened...he took the board check in his lab.....and he also faced same prob.......he told me to go with his person to the service centre at the place........the guy jus threw me there and ran away.........there i told the person the whole detail...he checked the number on his comp and said it was replaced thrice...... he also told that this board was earlier given to someone...who had some display prob..so given bak to service centre..which on correction was given to me.....also at the very moment he didnt had replacement....told me to keep the board and collect new one in 4-5 days.....after hearing the detail i thght i was cheated so i told when a replacement is there i will change the board and l8er i never went bak there again......

my frnd told it may b smps issue...so i jus changed it too 450w...but unfortunately..prob is as it is......so thinking to change the system b4 it starts givin prob again
regardin cabinet it looks fine...only thing missing is the smi lead wire......manual mentions....it allows to manually place the system into a suspend mode to save power...........is that the fault...u mean????

Did you try with different ram? If the ram is faulty or not properly seated, the problem of no post/no beeps will happen. Doesnt seem like its either an smps or board issue.

ok
you may try this to eliminate the problem of switches.

from ur m/b manual find out which two pins are for the power switch and which two pins for reset switch.
it would be marked as PWR and RST respectively.

when you have confirmed the pins as mentioned in the manual,
(remove the main power cable from the mains power socket first)remove the jumper wires from those pins. these wires will be coming from the power and reset switch of your case.
mark them with paper if needed so that you know which is which. (generally the green one is for Power and blue one for RST.)

after you have removed the wires , power on the mains.

now take a small metallic screwdriver and touch both the power and gnd pins which you had identified earlier.
just touch it for a second at the most and post what happens .....??

ps: you do not need the smi wire. if it is there disconnect it.

screw driver??or tester..btw reste is a 4 pin wire but only 2 wires r present(1st and last...2 and 3 r empty)....now for power.....2pin wire is present

This is strange since generally it is the speaker wire which has the wire comfiguration that you have mentioned.
reset or RST is generally 2 pin wire connector.

Yes chaos, once this matter of switches and cables is confirmed. m/b and ram slots will be / should be debugged.

ps: Chaos, Does this mobo have built in / onboard graphics ??
