Any particular reason for choosing a petrol ver diesel when others are going the other way?

How much is your daily driving?

Which city are you going to drive in?

Are you driving on highway too?

What is your requirement on legroom/headroom?

Any Brand you like/dislike?

how about skoda fabia
i20 is underpowered
Skoda Fabia is more underpowered than the i20! :)

i20 1.2 petrol doles out 80 ps @ 5200 rpm compared to the Fabia's 70 @ 5400. The 1.4 Gamma i20 is even more powerful @ 100ps

since you are looking for a petrol car in this budget jazz is your best bet..i20 is underpowered..Jazz engine is good and handling is very good..along with it comes honda's reliability and good buy back as a used car

dad didnt like jazz design so jazz is ruled out

Check out the Polo 1.6,meets most of your requirements, but legroom will be a problem and maintenance time will tell .

Your daily running is sufficient to go for a diesel. Diesels these days are much more refined than they used to be earlier.

Plus your budget is enough to get you a loaded diesel hatch.

The fact is that the diesels have much more torque which will give you advantage in the stop and go Mumbai traffic.

I hope you would be also planning on weekend get aways to Lonavala, Kashid, Alibagh and the likes.

Do one thing. Go to the showrooms and test drive both the diesel and hatch versions of a)i20 b)Punto c)Swift d) Ritz

They are quite capable cars and when you are spending 8 lacs you better do exhaustive research than just spend the money.

Polo 1.6 over i20 Asta. I dont think you have any other choice besides these 2 (how much is asta(o) and asta AT?)

i20 gives a lot more creature comforts than polo. But polo gives the engine and a VW badge and the looks

i second teh option of diesel...Why dont you consider i20 Asta Diesel..You will get whole bunch of features (almost everything including ABS, EBD, Airbags, Alloys, Electric OVrms, Climate control to name a few) and is well within your budget..Furthermore it is the torquiest diesel hatchback avalaible in india which 90Bhp of power and mileage is pretty good too.

if performance is a priority, i20 Diesel ftw. it absolutely PWNS the petrol. the petrol has an engine from a smaller car (i10) while the diesel has an engine from a bigger car ( the verna)

which do you expect to be faster :P

for the i20 couldn't have put it in any better than Greenhorn. The VGT (Variable Geometry turbo) in the

Common Rail Direct Injection Unit makes it really awesome to drive. Its so damm powerful and fun to drive

that people call it "Pocket Rocket"

@greenie: Your siggy is sooooo true.....
