if performance is a priority, i20 Diesel ftw. it absolutely PWNS the petrol. the petrol has an engine from a smaller car (i10) while the diesel has an engine from a bigger car ( the verna)

which do you expect to be faster :P
there is one edit, the diesel engine in i20 isnt from verna..verna has got a 1.5 crdi engine that used to come with getz Crdi...I20's 1.4l unit is completely new engine..Just wanted to clear :)

Seems like I have been away from the scene longer than I felt. As far as I remember the Getz had the same engine for sure.

My "Pocket Rocket" comment holds true for the 1.5 litre though I am pretty sure the 1.4 wont be lagging in any sense.

Just saw the Hyundai website, the diesel comes with a 6 speed gearbox which will give you even better mileage. My

suggestion would be to test drive the cars as I had said before.

Check out the Polo 1.6,meets most of your requirements, but legroom will be a problem and maintenance time will tell .
cant compromise with leg room...

Polo 1.6 over i20 Asta. I dont think you have any other choice besides these 2 (how much is asta(o) and asta AT?)

i20 gives a lot more creature comforts than polo. But polo gives the engine and a VW badge and the looks
polo has a leg room problem

gonna consider i20 diesel....as itz got a 1.4 engine and as u all say low maintainence......

my parents still think diesel is alot of maintainence....

lets hope dey agree.....

going for all test drives tomorrow.....

1)i20

2)jazz

3)polo

Polo 1.6 is not there for a test drive, but check out the leg room. 1.6 would be a thing a beauty for the price.

i20 would be you best bet I guess. The new 6th gear helps a lot.

Jazz is a honda.Very reliable. Highly refined engine Very roomy. And you get almost all the features i think.

Fiat Linea Emotion Petrol Pack BS IV Rs 7,89,311 ? Not interested in sedans?
If Fabia & Jazz r underpowered then only Chevrolet Optra SRV OPTION PACK @ Rs 7,83,479 (100bhp @5800 rpm) is left in hatch, its slightly more powerful then i20, but will recommend i20 as its new and more advanced with all latest safety features.

Is i20 the best powered car in the segment?

Stay away from Fiat. Unfortunately, their dealership with Tata isn't really doing them a lot of good. Cars sold are mostly not in good condition and repairs are subject to replacement with parts from Tata vehicles. Even otherwise, the Linea, otherwise an excellent VFM car, suffers from poor build quality.

Rusting problem in Fiat Linea - Team-BHP

2010 Fiat Linea petrol emotion + Engine Problem - Team-BHP

Fiat Linea - Overheating problem... - Team-BHP

And a whole bunch of assorted here: Complain regarding manufacturing defects & others in Fiat Linea

I agree these problems are present in other cars too, but this one belongs to a slightly higher segment by Indian standards, and should have done better on those fronts.
Never faced an issue. Touch wood.

I did screw up my cigarette lighter though.

As for the break noise, I don't know where it comes from but I've heard the same noise in a similar situation from my swift and ANHC. I've tried recreating it, no avail as yet. Totally random occurrence in similar situations.
