Need suggestions for headphones..budget 3-5k

Hi guys

my old sennheisers are totally worn out. need to buy a new pair. budget is between 3-5k. need suggestions from the enthusiasts here. brand of choice is senn. but am more than willing to give the others a look. i am looking at a circumaural set.

any feedback on the following?

hd212 pro

hd228

rs110

hd515

also need to know reliable places in mumbai where i can get them since there are a lot of fake senns floating around.

no such preferences...the headfones will be used for all kinda music, movies and games. i don use speakers.
 
For gaming go for roccat kave (bit above your budget)

i have JVC HA RX900 which are pretty good too and i also have senn hd485 which have lots of bass(although a bit boomy).

From the ones you posted above, the hd-515.
Else at that price range only the koss comes in mind.. You will have to check availability.
The hd 448 are also a good bang for the buck.
 
^^ Seconded ! I really liked them. Most headphones at the lower price range have something lacking, mostly the bass. The portapros have a very balanced and natural sound. You can try them out at the Imagine store at Atria mall Worli if you are from Mumbai.
 
Push your budget to 6K and get the Sennheiser HD555 and mod them to make them sound like the HD595 - the best VFM headphones you will ever get!
 
Another vote for the Porta pros , tried it and really liked it for the price :). If you want something more detailed with amazing soundstage try and get a AD700 for ~5.5k from Global Easy Buy . Those are one of the best you can get for the price .They fall short of little bass but the midrange soundstage is amazing .
 
i hadnt even considered the portapro...thanks evyone for your suggestions. will try goin to atria sometime and trying them out (if thats possible). hd515,555,ad700..quite a few to research now.

initial PoV: i chckd out ebay GEB...the minimum i saw for the ad700 is 6.5k which is above my budget. the kaves look really good, but gaming isnt my no 1 priority...and i intend using my set off a normal sound card. so i think the kaves is above my requirements. the portapro seems nice as well..the design is slightly odd though, but i am lookin fwd to goin to atria and chkin them out first hand. wish i could get the ad700 cheaper...and i think id go for that.
 
^ If you can get someone to bring the AD700 for you, it's totally worth it. Sadly, GEB is slightly expensive otherwise I would also have got it. :(

Porta Pro is really great for the price. As BF1983 said, it was surprisingly very balanced. The design feels slightly delicate, but not a problem.

Sennheiser HD555 isn't worth it, even with mods. You will still need an amp to get the best out of it. AD700 is a better option.
 
prime is sellin the 555 for 6k...too expensive for my liking. have shortlisted the 515/porta/ad700 (if i can manage it somehow). not considering the roccat since its way above my requirements.
 
^^ Snap it up. Many people have considered the AD700s to sound much better than what their price indicates. :)
