Got my Dell XCD 35 package today from flipkart and I opened it and inserted Airtel Sim and after turning on, it shows a cross (X) on the network and while trying to make a call it says, network not registered. I went to the network setings, and on manual search, it shows random network in 1 out of 5 searches. I had good reception with Airtel and Cellone from my room on my earlier k790i. Same is the case when i go to the window, but search result shows some 2~3 networks this time, and when it shows Airtel i clicked that but it says 'could not register the network. please try again later'.

I think this is a case of DOA. SO should i contact flipkart or apply for RMA (and how) ?

please help me guys.

Please guys. never buy from flipkart

Since it is a fresh new piece, i suggest you contact flipkart and get it replaced. This is the best bet for you now.

Just contacted flipkart, and they said Ive to take it to dell service center to confirm DOA, then only they can replace it ......:@

And on calling dell service, they say Ive to wait more than 30 mins to get in touch with a support man, as they are flooded with calls. Called flipkart again, and they said, they can't make it a DOA case unless its stated as non repairable from authorized service center within 7 days of product delivery....

please suggest, what am i supposed to do.

There is no dell mobile resellers on kerala on the list provided on dell site too :(

Most probably the baseband(i.e modem) of your phone is corrupt.

If your phone is 3g activated try setting wcdma only in wireless settings and try to log on. Otherwise try setting gsm only scan networks.

The default settings are GSM/WCDMA auto, hence try by forcing to one network only.

All SIMs I tried are 2G only. And ive tried setting 2G only and GSM only, but no use. Will it be a software or a hardware problem?

oh, Im getting tired of this, please help me guys.

I have contacted flipkart thrice in the morning itself, and they keep repeating that I contact dell Customer care to confirm the issue, then only they can replace it, but contacting dell CC was an infinite wait on phone :(

Finally i figured out from dell website that theres an another CC no. for Dell mobiles, and i called that and the personnel told me, to call the nearest Service center and gave me the number of Cochin Service center (which is about 100KM away). I called them up, and they said, they cant do nothing unless I take the phone to the service center, but its 100Km away and i dont have the time for that, as Ive some exams in a week.

Also flipkart guy told me, i have to confirm DOA from dell service center within a week. I told this matter to flip cart CC guy, and he said, he cant do anything unless i take it to service center.

So my point is, if i get it to service center and get it repaired/replaced by them, then what is the point of 7 days DOA warranty??

What is that i can do now. im in serious dilemma. I dont have the time to run after this, but ive a 7 days deadline for claiming DOA. :(

somebody please give a solution.

From the description given by you it seems that if you want to save your 10k you have to take pains to take it to the service centre yourself. Tough luck i'll say. :(

no other choice?? Do i have to struggle to bring it to their attention ?:@

Is there any way I can claim full refund? i will happily buy it from letsbuy for 1.5k less. Is there any chance of getting a refund? im ready to sent it back.

this the return policy of flipkart.

isnt travelling 100+ km looking for a service center equate to 'cannot find the service center' ?

travelling there will take away a min of 600~800 bucks on fuel and I really dont have the time for that :(

Btw, just check the task manager of the phone and is showing 420MB of total memory, and only 113Mb used. Is there is no need for any unlock, right? Has anyone else got this new series/gen XCD 35? It seems like already unlocked with 512MB memory.

Or is it the other way around? Was it luck, that mine had 512 MB ?

btw, these are the address of the Cochin service center. Anyone from Cochin knows the exact locations and route?

22 South Kerala Cochin Digicomp complete solutions, door no 28/3318, a1, muscat tower, ground floor, sa road kadavanthra, cochin-20 Mr.Prashant C 0484-4066981

23 South Kerala Cochin Accel frontline services ltd, first floor, door no.41/1722, ittiyar chambers, near veekshnam press, arangath road, cochin-682018 Mr. Sinitha and Mr. Bindu 0484-3022209 9867153126

Guys,

I went to Dell Service center at Cochin today, got the phone checked and they reloaded the ROM with 2.2 and still the problem persist. Finally got the DOA certicate after a 3 hr wait, as they havnt even heard of such thing. Called Dell and confirmed and somehow managed to get the format for the certificated and all done properly in a total of 4 hrs.

Now the flipkart guys will schedule and arrange a courier pickup from me, and it has to arrive there, and they ve to get it replaced from Dell, then only they can give me a new piece :(

Please guys... never ever buy from flipkart again and regret later. Their service style will get into our nerves. :(

Btw got confirmed about these:

* Dell now ships new sets with Android 2.2 froyo officially

* The new 2.2 devices have full 512 Mb unlocked :)

* Older unit users can go to Dell Centers to check if compatible with 2.2 froyo, and if upgraded, they too can enjoy the unlocked 512MB ram officially :)

That's SAD on part of Flipkart's as well as Dell service centre. There is no meaning of DOA warranty if you have to run to service center and service center should have provided you the replacement once they know it is DOA and beyond repair.

They said, they can give a replacement, but for that Ive to go there again after 2 days :@
I asked if they can courier it back to me, but they said thy cant. Its about a 100 Km journey and will spoil one whole day of mine. So went with the DOA certificate. But i didnt knew at that time that flipkart's policy is

first this phone has to reach them back
they send it for RMA
they send me back whatever dell gives them.... Then how can this be a DOA replacement?? This procedure gonna take atleast 2 weeks.

The courier guys havt yet contacted me for the reverse pickup as those #$%$ flipkart guys promised. This the the 10th day from the date of payment. Now its gonna atleast 10 more days....

Also now the price for the same is 10.4k shipped or less :(

I paid 10.9k for the same and havnt even used the phone once, and will again take 2 weeks to get a working one in hand, and by that time it will hit sub 10k mark price new. :(

can i ask refund for that 1k loss ? I dont want their DOA replacement. I will go to service center again and get it replaced. But i cant let them laugh at me.

What are the options I can do against their deeds ?

option 1: Spread the word "Dont buy from flipkart" on facebook, twitter and other community places and save others too.

option 2: When finally they arrange for reverse courier pickup (blue dart insured as they said), will ship them back a 3~4 KG stone packed really well in a box and they will have to pay around 2k+ to receive it. And i can get it replaced from Dell service center anyway, And i ll take the pain to go their for it. Atleast the guys are really friendly. And will get a new unit in about 3~4 days max, but flipkart way will take atleast another 2 weeks.

^^Haha. I like your 2nd option. Go with it bro. They really deserve it. Those Flipkart noobs might even send a new phone w/o opening your suprise package.

lol

10chars

Will there be any problem doing so? Im so much into that idea, as ive suffered a lot. Now the phone is selling for some 10.4k and i paid 10.9k 2 weeks ago.

Just want to know if they can sue me for doing so? As i have the bill i can have the warranty 1 1 year span from dell service center itself. No need to contact them after this.

I say both the options. Whatever makes you a happy man. And wow, is dell recruiting some different breed, they seem to be nice everywhere.

Ok. Now i need to find some nice rocks :)

i think courier guy will ask something fishy about the weights :P

Yup, the front desk ladies at the service center were especially too friendly:ohyeah:

Thanks for your support guys. Moving forward with the plan.

Also want to play a little drama when they call me after getting the surprise.

I dont think they ll mind the rocks being wet as its raining heavily here. Finished packing and now its some 3KG+ :)

But i havnt received any calls from the courier guys regarding the reverse pickup yet.

^^Do keep us updated with this stone sending thing. Completely backing you on this. Those people need to get served

Btw it would be good if you can post the pics of package you plan to send :P
