Need to build a very budget rig for a friend for general multimedia and the occasional gaming i.e usually FIFA/NBA/ sometimes something a little more graphics heavy.
Budget= 15-20k (neg) without monitor, ups, speakers, kb and mouse.
Just CPU, mobo, RAM, HDD, (GFX??), DVD-RW and cabby (with PSU)
I configured some AMD systems first (still looking at Intel configs):
(All prices taken from ITWares)
CONFIG 1
Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.7GHz 1MB L2 cache = 3000
Gigabyte GA-M68SM-S2L GeForce 7025/630a = 2625
Kingston DDR2 2x2GB 800 Mhz = 2400
Palit 9400GT Super 1GB DDR2 - Super W/HDMI = 2700
Western Digital 1TB (16 MB Buffer) = 5150
Samsung 20x SATA SH-203B = 1200
Cabinet w/ PSU = 1500
TOTAL = 18575/-
CONFIG 2
Athlon 64 X2 7750+ 2.9GHz 3MB L2 cache Black Edition = 3550
MSI K9A2GM-F V3 AMD 740G and SB700 Chipset = 3050
Kingston DDR2 2x2 GB 800 Mhz = 2400
Sapphire HD 3450 512MB DDR3 = 2200
Western Digital 1TB (16 MB Buffer) = 5150
Samsung 20x SATA SH-203B = 1200
Cabinet w/ PSU = 1500
TOTAL = 19050/-
(with 780G mobo) = 20350/-
(with Palit 9400GT 1GB) = 20850/-
CONFIG 3
AMD Phenom X3 Phenom X3 8450 Tri-Core = 4670
MSI K9A2GM-F V3 AMD 740G and SB700 Chipset = 3050
Kingston DDR2 2x2 GB 800 Mhz = 2400
Sapphire HD 3450 512MB DDR3 = 2200
Western Digital 1TB (16 MB Buffer) = 5150
Samsung 20x SATA SH-203B = 1200
Cabinet w/ PSU = 1500
TOTAL = 20170/-
(with 780G mobo) = 21450/-
(with Palit 9400GT 1GB) = 21950/-
I'm leaning towards CONFIG 2, as he can always upgrade the CPU later on.
I haven't considered the Biostar 790GX due to availability concerns.
Reg. graphics, how does the 790gx fare?
I've configured the 740/780 systems with the 3450 cards cos of Hybrid Crossfire. How does the 3450 compare to the 9400GT?
Would it be better to use a 780g board instead of a 740g mobo? The extra RAM slots won't make a difference.
My friend won't be overclocking or anything of the sort, so take that out of the equation.
Cheers,
Maestro
