google knows how to market their products.. invitation-only for first few months is their way of creating hype around some ordinary stuff.
i dont understand why dont they just improve existing orkut? it still shows 'beta' on home page! google just wants to retain whatever % of user it has left..coz now everyone is shifting to facebook

I agree Google knows to market their products, Creat hype through Invite only access and then users get few invitation to invite others and the dudes go crazy to find that 1 invite, somehow..........and the product is famous.
New Orkut is nothing but addition of certain features which they lacked for longtime and they are making it look like a big change!
Smart chaps in Google Marketing Team and I am sure most of them are Indians, we know how to sell!
