regarding HDD, could anyone explain the benefits of SATA150 with NCQ??

ex: Seagate Barracuda 7200.7rpm, 160GB, cache 8MB with NCQ. i read articles which say that NCQ doesn't benefit much as of now.

any suggestions??

doesent really help,id suggest u get a hitachi drive as those r the best aroudnd n scome with a 5 yr warranty n r also priced similarly

Get the Hitachi T7K250 series...the 250gigger shud be 110$. SATA2 with NCQ...next best thing to the raptors :D

i read somewhere that the SATA2 still doesn't give the 3Gbps speed. instead, going for higher rpm is better if speed is the criteriion. i would just go for the SATA1.5Gbps or 3Gbps (w or w/o NCQ) depending upon what i find cheaper.

it diesnt..but its one of the very fastest drives...100 odd is a veru good price for it IMHO

i have picked these two up as of now:

- Western Digital 36.7 WD360GDRTL Raptor 8MB Buffer 10000RPM Serial ATA - Retail Hard Drive Kit

- Seagate 160GB Serial ATA/150 8MB Buffer ST3160827AS-RK NCQ - Retail Hard Drive Kit

If he is buying a Dell system tell him to look at the Dimension XPS 600. This line is the best gaming type rig that he can get from them otherwise he could also go with the new XPS laptops! These guys now have a SKU for the 7800 GO. Only if his budget can be stretched though! :)

the config so far is:

MACHINE:

- AMD OPTERON 165 1.8GHZ DUAL CORE W/1MB X 2 CACHE 90NM 64-BIT SOCKET 939 RETAIL BOXED W/COOLING FAN (3 YEARS WARRANTY)

- DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard

- ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card (i'm getting a discount from ATI due to which the GFX would be cheaper than the 7800GTX)

- 2GB RAM, Crucial Ballistix 1GBx2 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Unbuffered System Memory

- Western Digital 36.7 WD360GDRTL Raptor 8MB Buffer 10000RPM Serial ATA - Retail Hard Drive Kit

- Seagate 160GB Serial ATA/150 8MB Buffer ST3160827AS-RK NCQ - Retail Hard Drive Kit

- 2GB RAM, OCZ Platinum Series with Enhanced Bandwidth technology (EB) 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 500 (PC 4000) Unbuffered System Memory Model OCZ5001024EBPE - Retail

(OCZ is better in 512MB sticks, ballistix in 1GB sticks)

- 7800GTX 512MB. (i'm getting a discount from ATI due to which the GFX would be cheaper than the 7800GTX)

- DFI LanParty UT RDX200 Cross-Fire Socket 939 ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire AMD Motherboard - Retail. (issues with o/cing)
