Well,

Heard a lot about this phone, heard lots of crap about this phone, and heard lots of good things about this phone.

Its about time to put some facts about this phone somewhere. So I am creating this thread. Others are welcomed to put in their own inputs and first hand experience. As I do not have time to write a detailed review, I am taking this route.

Over period of time, I will add hands on experience and analysis of various functions and features of this phone.

Online reviews are full of how GOOD business phone it is. I will get to that. But first let me start off with 1 bad thing that everyone is quick to point out about this phone.

The camera!!!!

I have seen some horrid pics taken from camera of this phone online on other forums and reviews.

But I am gonna post few of my own. Being a business phone, this is the weakest link of this phone for sure.

All the pics were taken here were in AUTO mode. Nothing was touched in camera settings.
Only autofocus was activated by pressing T key. Many people simply dont read the manual :P and unlike most other phones with half key press autofocus function, E71 uses T key as autofocus key ( thanks to lack of dedicated camera button ).
Once you discover this key, the pics turned out to be pretty ok in terms of quality. good enough for viewing on phone or PC. The outside pic is taken just a while back at 6PM under overcast condition, so light was poor.



All these pics are default images taken directly from camera. No image has been edited in any way.

GPS, GPRS, EDGE, WiFi, Battery, Screen, Keypad impressions to follow.

Good work.
The E71 is one of the most talked about mobiles in various forums nowadays and we didn't have a single thread on it. (If you don't believe me see howardforums.com.... there are 50+ threads there on the E71 alone)

Coming back to the phone, what is widely known about its pictures is the purple tinge on its photos... which is evident on the photos you have taken.

Fast, easy setup for most popular email services, eg. GMail, Yahoo and Hotmail. Full support for Activesync and Exchange. Excellent for email on the go.

I have a detailed review ready, just need to take some screenshots and photos.

its the best phone ive used so far. simply amazing. i rarely ever use the camera on a cellphone so that aspect really dint matter for me.

its selling for Rs.20,300/- in mumbai. the inbuilt browser is nice. although i am now using opera mini.

although I dont have a e71, I have used a friends e71 and I love how small it really is..., that + the dpad is awesome.... I frankly nowadays dont use the camera on my cellphone....

I guess its time to start saving my pocket money...

has anyone also noticed that most of the new e series phone like e71 and even older e51 are equally speedy as Nokia s40 phones/SE phones?

hmm..great price..i should save for this ..camera is no use to me coz i rarely use it..all i want is email sync :ohyeah:

There was a lot of talk in difference forums (hofo to start with), regarding reception issue...any such case regarding the same or explanation?...Dont have 3G over here yet so..

Those issues are only faced by E71-2 (NAM version of E71)

Can I Take The Phone Back Up On Memor Card As I Use To Do This On
N-90m And One More Thing That How I Can Save My Messages To Memory Card ..................plz Write Me In Detail As I Am On My Way To Purchase This Phone But Befor That Would Like To Know These Things .....................thank You

Updated the firmware.

1st thing to notice, phone is slightly more responsive. Everything is opening immediately, slightly faster than before.

Big improvement to camera. That horrible purple tinge is much reduced, almost gone. Its actually working ok now even in low light.

Contacts has slightly new navigation options. when you are on some name and press right keypad, it gives you different options now. Also custom themes now work even inside the contacts ( and not generic background like before ).

Maps updated.

The speaker phone sounds odd, little different. Dont know if its just me but it definitely sounds little odd.

Havent tested GPS yet.

Are u sure abt the purple tinge being reduced? Most of the forums on the net claim that there is no improvement to the camera performance with the new firmware

ok guys. i just bought this phone. completely charged it. is it wise to update the firmware immediately? i havent installed any applications which might be on the phone. havent even installed the free 3 month navigator. will all that go away? need a reply asap. thanks.

hey guys, im very keen on buying this phone, got great reviews+ its not that big, feels comfortable (i tried it in axiom store). my only query is its mp3 capability. can you guys tell me how does it perform as a music phone?

Its pretty good, only gripe is that it doesnt differentiate between ringtones and music so they pop up in music player. only fix is to create playlists

Doesn't have a 3.5mm jack either. Pointless as a music phone IMO. Buy something from Nokia Xpress Music Editions. Why not the 5800? Should be released in a week's time. ;)
