Nokia N9 : MeeGo Phone

So nokia expect to sell what are essentially same specs from a year old phone like sgs lcd or droid x with a new OS and admittedly a very beautiful design for 30k? Well I don't see it launching in india and I don't see it selling at that price. If nokia wants to make it a successful venture it should be priced at around 20k I think..

You are comparing apples and oranges. SGS-L and Droid run android - which we all know is a comparatively resource hungry OS. And there is more to a phone than just the specs. It about the whole user experience. If it performs all the functions smoothly and has good battery life, then it does not matter if there is 1GHz single core or 4GHz quad core.

The Nokia N9 has a beautiful one-piece, unibody design where the hardware and software fit together seamlessly. The large, 3.9 inch curved glass AMOLED display lets the applications shine and take full benefit of the user interface. Thanks to the innovative laminated display technology, it looks like applications are literally floating on top of the screen. The body of the Nokia N9 is made from the best in polycarbonate material engineering today, enabling superior antenna performance over most other competitors’ smartphones. This means better reception, better voice quality and fewer dropped calls.

Consider the fact that even the tech blogs that bash Nokia's phones accept that their reception quality is best in the industry at present...and this will take it 1 notch above their own set standard. There are many such good features in this phone. Similarly there are some cons like low quantity of apps (though if it performs most of the tasks which average joe requires OOTB, then this can still be popular)

So lets wait for the reviews and then decide if its worth the price tag ;)

PS - even I would be happy if its priced close to 20k :D

^Killers looks, Only stopper might be Nokia and Windows tie up, as Meego Might not stay longer once Nokia Imlements windows ( IMHO) and non replaceble battery is bad.

I may not seen/used much of the latest phone but that video demo looked sick. So so smooth and so friendly.

I'm impressed. The UI and design looks very very cool. I thought Nokia lost it completely due to the recent turn of events, but they're back with a bang.

Hmmm I never compared the phone to any other OS. I just mentioned that the Soc used is not exactly state of art. Well as far as early previews state the ui does seem to be very fluid so nokia have optimized it very well. But the same question arises as to why nokia don't go for latest hardware. For a flagship phone the spec sheet has to be impressive. Maybe by using omap 3630 instead of say 4430 they are getting better battery life. Or lack of space in the super thin chassis. The UK btw does look smashing much smoother then the meego tablet that was launched a few months ago.

UI, Looks both are truly awesome..

I might even think of buying it, if all the apps are available..

I hope this will give them a Decent Profit...

After reading the articles on different sites and even the response on TE, I can say that Nokia has taken a highly risky decision. These days it’s very difficult to attract customers to a newer OS. People don't look beyond iOS and android...even with innovative and buttery smooth UI, Microsoft has not been able to get traction. Then comes along N9 preview...and people have almost unanimously loved the UI and handset design. And the news is not even yet 24hrs old.

Now instead of continuing with this, Nokia will make Windows Phone as its primary smart phone platform :S
Man, its hard being Stephen Elop right now...he (and Nokia BoD) have taken some of the most controversial decisions in the last six months. It would be a real shame for Nokia if the N9 outsells its first batch of Windows Phone

On what basis did you conclude that the response for wp7 was not as much as meego? Commercially, even the n900 was a dud. Excellent phone no doubt, but there is something wrong with the way nokia promotes it's products in the post iOS and android era.
