Planning to gift my brother with either one these tablets. Which one is better? . I am not into android tablets and have no clue which one to gift :ashamed:.

His main usage is going to be read pdf books ( which he gets off internet), surf and watch movies occasionaly. If i gift him either of the devices will all the services showed off at the lauch of the tablets work in India?. Need to take a decision at the earliest as i have a friend coming from US.

TIA :)

I doubt we have amazon video, netflix and pandora available in India.

So video streaming is useless in India, what other features are you talking about?

Advantages for Nook tablet - 1 GB RAM and mic

Advantages of Kindle Fire - customized OS, supposed to be much more smoother.

If the user is gonna tinker with the tablet's OS, get the Nook tablet.

If he needs a more polished experience out of the box, get the kindle fire.

PS: Since both the devices are not released, this is all speculation. For final words wait for both devices to be released next week.

I would suggest you to go fro Nook Tablet, it's lot better to Fire in terms of hardware; and I am sure, there would be good developer community to Nook tablet similar to nook color.

Thanks for the inputs aprreciate it :). I want to decide and pre order becuase friend is leaving on Dec 10 and delaying further might lead not getting either one of them.

As of now decided the Nook tablet as specs of say it can play HD videos, expandable memory, double the RAM which sound good for the price.

Go with the Nook. I dunno which ppl said that that extra 50 USD is not worth it, with double RAM, double memory, plus mem card features, not to mention will be rootable easily than the kindle, which they say is going to be locked down and rooting is going to be difficult.

Nook Color Refurbs may be available for under 150 $
Check them out as i feel that there is no point buying the Nook Tablet if Nook Color is available (new or refurb, anything).
If new then as Vivek suggested, get the Nook Color.

Do not wait for black friday as no one has deals on the new Nook Tablet.

I have a similar query, my cousin is interested in buying either of these tablets. I am inclined towards suggesting the Nook Tablet. I understand it doesnt have access to the android app store, but can we load our own music/videos on it and see them? Also, loading our own books? or they have to be purchased from B&N only?

I am 100% sure devs will root it and u can do everything. If u want OOTB experience then we have to wait till it launches.

I guess so. I am also considering some other tablets. staples is selling the blackberry playbook 16gb for 199$. the lenovo A1 tablet is available for 200$ and the HTC Flyer for 300$.

If you're gonna root it the moment you buy it then its Nook for you, if not then its Fire for you.

Gizmodo used this caption for its review of Nook Tab - More power doesn't mean more performance.

But then that doesnt include a rooted Nook.
