This is absolutely freaky, just yesterday chaos told me about a data recovery sw cos i told him about my fears of the 7200.10s crashing.

Anyway..30 mins back, i wanted to play a movie, started the avi file and got a BSOD.
The error shown was nv4disp.dll or something which has something to do with my gpu..right?

anyway, i reboot my rig, it POSTS showing all disk drives, but i get "BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK".

Well, my heart definitely stopped for a moment.

Since the bsod error shown was nv4disp.dll, i removed, cleaned and reseated my GPU, with no result..still no windows.

So, i disconnect all my drives except the primary OS HDD..boot into Windows was OK.

I shut down the system and plugged in all drives..again Boot failure.

Next i removed BOTH my 7200.10s and tried..boot was OK.

I have 4 sata2.0 ports on my A8NE, i changed ports of both the HDDS and booted...the windows boot logo came and got stuck at the blue-scroller thingy.

So, i try safe mode and it boots perfectly..both my HDDS are detected and the data is all there.

Then i try booting into VISTA which is residing on one of my 7200.10s and it boots fine.

Then finally i try XP again to find the system stuck at the boorscreen.

Now, im shit scared about all my data, so i boot into windows with both of em unplugged, it boots fine.

As a last resort, i hibernated my system, plugged them both in and restored it.

Strangely..everything fine :O

All the music and movies and even NFS carbon started :S

Any explanation anyone? :S:S ..theres 400gb of data at stake here :(

Sys Config

A64 3000+
Asus A8NE rev2
6600gt

all stock(rolled back to stock after the diskboot failure)

120GB cuda IDE
80GB cuda IDE
320GB cuda SATA2
320GB cuda SATA2
btw..i checked NV log file and it showed no error logged.

Havent rebooted my system yet.
Will do so after this post.

Did a reboot..same problem..had to get to my HDDs only after hibernating it :(

i have a 80mm 40cfm fan blowing air on my 320s

want to check temps but speedfan wont start :S..its hangs

Looks like its a failing PSU not a failing hard drive. Next to no chance that both drives will fail together at once :P. What are ur drive temperatures like?

started a 60GB transfer from one drive to another, 2 mins into transfer, temps in everest are 37 and 39 on both the 320giggers respectively.
the ide drives are at 36 and 37

psu is a zeb500W

bought the psu a yr back and it was fine till now :S

just did a bare minimum boot (all fans off, just the primary HDD and two SATAs are in operation)

windows XP same problem..but vista boots fine n fast!!!..just barely three runs of the green bar.
p.s: another member says he faced same problem b4 his 320 konked out.

even i heard 320 Run Pretty Hot !!..

wat about 250 ?? they run Cool ? ... currently me having 2 * 160 ....Want Move over to a 250

This doesn't seem like a heat related issue to me, maybe it's the psu...btw my seagate's are running at 42 constantly. infact the pata 120 has been running at those temps for past 2-3 yrs without a prob ... touchwood :)

Did u try another SATA Cable once on the Problem Hard Disk ??

change both - the interface DATA cable & the POWER coupler & see if u can normally reboot without issues as it should.

I have no what went wrong..a few m ins back..the system wont even start..i had to reconnect everything to get it to boot.

only XP normal boot is the problem right now.

Both Vista RC2 and FC5 are booting as if nothing is wrong...even XP safemode is fine..only the normal XP boot gets stuck at the bootscreen.

I restored the system back to a 3 day old checkpoint..to no avail :(

edit: can anyone listen to the attached mp3 n tell me if all those HDD noises are normal? (startup beep like sound..post-shutdown whine)

^if thats the case ... how can u guys blame the PSU/HDD??

is everything fine is vista...?

also woot is the FS on xp drive & vista drive??..both must be NTFS right..

Not much hope but...if u have a image of the XP drive...try restoring it..

ive had problems which would make no sense at all...:S & almost all ended up to be windows file errs & got fixd when i restored the acronis image...wierd tough..

i knw this might sound a little extreme but try formating the windows partition and installing XP again. It will completely rule out the possibilty of windows XP actin on you (just to make sure that microsoft isnt screwin with u ).

If you do try this then report back if you are still facing the problem.

Ok- this may not be same but heres what happened few days back.

Windows crashed while surfing and playing WMP9 with the msn plugin.

On reboot- it said HDD not found or something and happened quite a few times:(- my &@%%* were in ...

then just shut down.
Reconnected every power conector, data cables, ...
waited few mins.
reboot- took really longer than usual booting into XP- showed me error with WMP and said that for safety all plugins have been closed.

Not used any plugin since that,
no issues yet.
Changed to WMP11 now- no issues yet- touchwood.

The thing is - i have used that WMP9 messenger plugin only thrice and all three times windows crashed after 3-4 hours of continuous play, while online.
Didn't happen when played same track again but with plugin disabled.
Still got rid of those 3 tracks.:ashamed:

Smith-
Is it possible that your XP is corrupted due to the crash and you need a fresh install?
BTW, a 3000+ at 2.7G, 6600GT OC and 4HDDs that includes 2x320GB 7200.10s- feeding off a Zebby 500W (dunno its 12v rating)- is a bit worrying to me:( - though it might not have anything to do with this issue you have.:cool2:

Edit-
Finally my 939th post using socket 939 stuff. :ashamed:

hmm..im using wmp classic..and it crashed when opening it..it also sends data to msn status message.
hmm..i will disable it n try then?

wierd man - I have been using this MSN plugin of WMP10 since the day it was available - may be more than 8-9 months now. never seen any probs..

It can be some codec (packs) problem with u people.. will need some guessing i suppose.
