Guys, i was expecting an onsite opportunity in my company soon (It was long due for me, my bad luck :@ ). I was expecting the place to be Canada since i had been there for two months last year and was suppose to join the same project there...but today i got a shocker !!!
I was told by my manager that i would have to travel to Shanghai,China in coming two months for a period of 6 months !!!!
This is mostly confirmed but my work permit processing and all has still not started.

I am already getting goosebumps, just thinking about China. How am i going to survive there ???
On top of that i am a pure vegetarian.

Food is not an issue if you learn to cook yourself. Be advised that veg for Chinese is non-veg cooked along with veg.

Learn to paddle mostly their you'll need a bicycle.

Only advantage that you get is Company provided accomodation as it's a non english speaking nation and more compensation.

If you ever turn to non-veg then try Chop-monkey

I dont know why you sound as if you are being sent to Kalapani lol.

Lotsa Chinese and Indian restaurants in Shanghai and lotsa Indian food/spices available there, hell even the instant mix veggies are available :D.

Thank your stars its Shanghai and not some interior town like Guangzhou.

Be careful and specific when you visit restaurants(if they undst you)

In a few places there, when you ask for veg they simply remove the non-veg pieces and serve... Yes, this is not a joke. So be warned :P

Other than language and food issues, Shanghai is a very modern city... up there with the best of the west...

Just marvel at the roads, infrastructure etc...

Edit: Yes, as darth says, quite a few Indian restaurants in that place...

bring me a dual sim phone...with capabilities of streaming DD national...lol...

seriously...this is the time to roam around...enjoy the age bro...

if u gonna behave like a kid who didn got the candy his best friend has, u ll be miserable all ur life.

Go there and live .. face things and then decide whats cool and whats not, and how u gonna work ur way through any situation.

Behaving like a kid.. bah

Among all the negative try to find some positive, u will feel better. After all it the fastest developing country, ofcourse u will find something that will suit ur lifestyle. :)

Damn, if it were me, i'd be estatic. I've always wanted to live in China for a while.
I understand your concern over vegetarian food though. If you were non vegetarian, you'd have a lovely time there :P .
Seriously speaking, don't let it get you down, you'll manage just fine. Try to look on the bright side and enjoy it. :)
Good luck.
