Things I love about Opera!

Things I love about Opera!

1. The sync functionality. I use opera on my Nokia 5800 and I love the fact that it syncs with my Desktop and Laptop. It syncs my bookmarks, password and even history. This is an extremely useful feature. FF and Chrome provide this function with Xmarks which I use a lot.
2. It has an in-built email client. I can easily set it up with my Gmail account and receive my mails as soon as I shoot my browser. It is anyways the first thing I do when I turn on my computer.
3. It has in-built IRC. FF provides this with Add-on.
4. It has the zoom in by width function. This is extremely useful in my 1920X1080 screen since 100% zoom level just covers half of the screen and things are hardly visible. FF provides this with add-on, couldn't find in Chrome or IE.
5. Opera mobile has the turbo function which saves on a lot of bandwidth. FF and Chrome don't even have a mobile phone version. In fact, Opera currently is the only browser I can find for my phone.
6. It looks way cooler than all other browsers, but this point is obviously debatable.
Earlier, certain sites didn't show up well in it, but now I rarely face that problem.
But one thing that I like about chrome is that it is extremely fast. Other browsers, including Opera, can't compete with it in this respect.

I don't trust opera neither, most of the times my online bank transaction or credit card payments fails when I use opera on airtel, citibank sites.

I think the new Opera 10.5 is almost as fast, if not faster, than Chrome. :hap2:'

Oh...that is not good. Risky. Would never use Opera. FF is fine. People say it is a memory hog. Well I do not keep more than 4-5 individual windows open at a time, so memory is fine.

Opera 10.5 Final is out!!

Can Anybody here explain me turbo feature of opera pc browser?

It basically uses Opera servers as a proxy. All your requests are routed through Opera server. The server fetches the requested page. Then it compresses images and flash, reducing the size of the page. Then this compresses content is delivered to you.

It helps in improving your browsing experience over slow connections. It also saves on the quantum of data transfer, which helps if you are on a data limited plan.

I dont use Airtel and Citibank, so maybe its an issue with these 2 sites in particular. I use Opera with the following bank websites
  1. ICICI
  2. SBI
  3. HSBC
  4. Standard Chartered

I also use it for every site that requires VerifiedByVisa (IRCTC, Indiaplaza, BSNL, Visa Bill Pay .etc.). Works flawlessly!

@stalker, It would be nice if you could post some of sites that dont work with Opera.

Is Opera really the best? Better than Firefox? I better switch then..

Depends a lot on personal choice as well. Before Firefox, I used opera extensively, but not now. Its definitely a tonne better than IE, but FF is even better for me. I have Opera as well as Chrome installed alongside FF, but I use FF mostly.

As for Safari, I am actually surprised that it even got 234 votes, Its probably the only browser that's worse than IE in terms of stability. The Windows version is a tonne worse.

ksl.com loaded just fine in Opera 10.10.

Don't have a Facebook account.

The main page will load up fine.. a few things like the picture viewer in their classifieds section are broken.

Internet Explorer 8 - 1% (447 votes)
This figure looks interesting. It means one would have to run vista or better to use IE8. What about the remainder of the votes (barring safari ofc), were they also on vista ?

Thing is you can never be sure how loaded the sample was in the first place. Maybe Opera users voted in bloc as did the FF ones. One networked better than the other.

For me this poll means nothing, you can't use it to tell you what you like, only you can do that yourself. Telling others 20% more 'internet users' prefer Opera over FF is not going to get FF ppl to switch, it might influence those that have never tried the two then again they just might stick to what they know best, IE :)

Lol, I totally get what you are saying. Im just using this poll as an excuse to increase Operas visibility :P For being such a brilliant browser, it hardly gets the attention it deserves.

The classifieds page is this?

ksl.com - Classifieds for Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming

It doesnt load in Opera, Chrome or IE8. So I dont think the problem is with Opera. You can try the latest Opera snapshot for Linux here.

Index of /unix/snapshot-6240

The final 10.5 release is expected soon. They hurried on the Windows version to make the deadline for the browser ballot I guess.

@People tried Opera but still went back to FF/Chrome/IE, It would be nice if you could post your reasons too.

OT : Interesting observation - Yet to find an Opera user that has a Facebook account.

I think its down to how demanding the user is. For a lot of ppl they just want their app to display and could care less which browser it uses. If it does not work with the app they want then thats as far as they will go with it. Inevitably that means IE as thats what most of their peers use as IE is the first browser any app developer tests against.

This is the desktop world the mobile world might be completely different.

That page is loading fine as well, and the picture viewer is working perfectly too. I didn't even have to use the mask feature.
stalker you noob, did you disable JavaScripts by mistake :P.

We are more evolved than that. Or have no friends.

The classified page seems to work in 10.50

Was not working till 10.10..

The home page of that very site is still broken though :P

Ads are getting blocked automatically for some reason and there are a bunch of white empty spaces that don't even correspond to the original ads location.. bah... i'm just ranting here.. the point remains that there are websites which appear broken in opera.. whether that is Opera's fault or it is the site developers fault is NOT what I'm commenting on..

Not really. I use Facebook - but rarely, and that too when I am bored and want to play some game. :P

P.S: I am facing no problems using facebook on Opera. :)

oh and yes... I just noticed.. FB seems to be fixed now with 10.5
Just try googling for opera and facebook. you'll find a pile of folks that have been complaining about it for a very long time now
