whoa that is really really scarry!!!!!!!!!! i have a question is this possible in india????

use linux the person who will come to catch u will run away saying i dont what windows the person is using..or say to isp bye bye ill go for new Isp

Woah. What are you planning to tell them?

It's really nothing too much to be worried about, I have had service with them for about 5 years, and over the course of that time this is about the 3rd warning. As long as it doesn't happen regularly, they just send you a warning via email, and that's all.... it's mainly because they are required to. I just need to be more careful, I got a little lax and didn't have enough of my security turned on, I will just have to play it cool for a little while :P

Just ignore it. The rule is to not react. The first time they send you a notice, they don't go after you.

Also, you may want to take a copy of your files (not a disk image backup, but a copy of all files), reformat your HDD, reinstall and run a disk wiper on your hdd... then copy back all the legal files.

BTW... PeerGuardian block lists don't seem to be updating properly, and neither does the level1 bluetack list. Anyone know any other good block lists?

thank god ..nothin of this sort happens in india..lolz

pixelpusher. take care of your internet activities...and play it safe !!;)

Is this wat they call a cease and desist notice or some like crap???

wat happens if someone does it regularly??
maybe if u know abt someone who didnt..

peerguardian is honestly not enough anymore.

Its way easy to get around PG for anyone.

I hope you have enabled encryption for the torrents. If not, do it now.

Encryption on torrents does nothing to help this. Torrent encryption is not an access control mechanism, it just prevents eavesdroppers from recognizing the content of the stream. The anti-piracy groups on the other hand, participate in the torrent. If you are connected to the torrent, you already know all the other peers, encryption or not.

yes I am aware of that. But something is better than nothing.

This is why some people prefer private trackers. There is nothing much you can achieve with PG these days.

And even on private trackers anti-piracy groups can easily get in. And if they use torrent trackers to get ip and trace it to you, PG cant help you. Its not like they cant change IP or their employees cant monitor you from their home connections ;)

There are plenty of loopholes in the law to actually worry about all this to be honest.

There is nothing that is 100% effective... but I have never had a problem with PeerGuardian activated, it is at least a powerful tool in helping reduce the possibility of detection.

Although by itself, this small cease and desist is not too serious, an accumulated amount of them in a short time would likely lead to my ISP cutting me off and closing my account, possibly more, but unlikely.

WHat abt Http dloads.... Rapidshare etc.... are they also traceable ?

And it would be nice if people shared if they are using anything except Peerguardian :P

http is not traceable unless the ISP is specifically sniffing your traffic.
If your ISP is sniffing your traffic, piracy is the least of your problems. :P

[All this is assuming Rapidshare is secure. If they give in, we are screwed.]

Well India is not too far away from something like this happening here too.

At the end of the day if India has to deliver on its international promises on intellectual property rights which is binding as we are signatory to that under WTO, it has to enforce the law which means going after pirates.

Although doing that on a large scale is impossible but a few notices, and our wonderful police taking action  will almost certainly spread the word that we are getting serious about piracy. Unlike US the problem in India would be that you would end up in jail first and then you will get the reasons
