Overclocking e4300 onAsus P5ne SLI motherboard beyond 2.2 Ghz

Hi Experts,

I am not new to overclocking but seem to be stuck somewhere when overclocking on this motherboard, so would like to get some specific help because in general i have tried everything to overclock my cpu which was overclocked to 2.9 Ghz on my Asus P5B Dlx motherboard. Below i have mentioned all the steps that i have already tried

All CPU feature options have been disabled.
FSB and Memory tried on auto, linked-sync, unlinked
Memory timings tried are 5-5-5-15, 4-4-4-12(1T and 2T both), and also tried everything on auto.
Voltages :
vCore from 1.3-1.45
NB voltage - 1.39 and 1.45 both
Offset voltage - 100mav
Memory voltage - 1.92 (havent tried more since i am not sure whether my kingston value ram can handle more or not)

Have tried almost everything, but no use, nothing is stable beyond the 1100 FSB(quad)...frustating part is that though the bios is supposed to detect bad overclocking and return to default, but sometimes it chooses not to and the only option left is to remove the battery which is kinda hidden beneath the graphics card and hence have to remove the graphics card to remove the battery.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Would atleast like to run at 2.6 Ghz
 
1stly. upgrade the p5n-e bios to the latest. i think 0602 is the latest. it will surely help in overclocking.

also 1 thing to make sure while ocing is that always keep fsb & ram unlinked on the mobo. creates probs in ocing when its linked. just leave the ram @ default speed & timing @ 2t.

i just couldnt boot past 2.6ghz b4 with the original bios. after upgrading bios it does 3.2 or so but i am running it @ 3ghz without any issues.

hmmmm....dont like to upgrade my bios though have downloaded the latest rom, but what i did was upped my voltages even more, i am kinda scared now though, my vcore is @ 1.48, nb voltage is @ ~ 1.5 and ram voltage is @ ~ 2.01, i have booted in windows now @ 2587.6 and running the orthos blend test for the last hour, everything seems fine, i dont think i would like to go any further but would drop the voltages once again step by step and see the lowest voltage at which i can get stable. i am running on the oldest bios i think, 0401, do u think such high voltages are required because of the old bios, asking because the same configuration used to run on my P5B Dlx at almost default voltages and that too @ 2.9 Ghz.
 
Its not a vCore problem, use the same as you did on the P5B Deluxe.

You better upgrade your BIOS, the earlier BIOS' suck. Specially 0401.

Also, leave the RAM Unlinked, at default speed. Linked causes a problem.

yes bios does matter. but even with the 0401 bios i did 2.6ghz @ stock volts.
anyways i suggest u should upgrade the bios & then u can hit 2.9ghz like u did on the p5n deluxe with pretty much the same volts. maybe slightly more or less.

1.48v is too much for 2.6ghz dude.
 
dude..

change ur BIOS to 0602..its on the ASUS website..

1.48V is too high..

1. leave the Vcore on AUTO (it works pretty well on this board, with the latest BIOS that is..)

2. Run ur FSB and memory unlinked

3. try a FSB of say 1100..dont try anything around 1050..this mobo seems to be really picky abt not booting around that number..

4. leave all else at AUTO

Tip:

u dont need to remove the battery everytime the system doesnt boot..just press the RESET button 4-5 times in quick successions..works like a charm :)
 
I did upgrade to the latest bios, 0602, and now i am able to run at 2.6Ghz with all voltages on auto except vcore which is now @ 1.325 but now the problem is that anything above 1150 FSB is making the system unstable, again tried upping all the voltages, setting up memory timing but nothing is helping. So as of now running @ 2.6 Ghz while everything is auto. Although i can live with this but still would like suggestions which i can try. Have read in a couple of places that this motherboard has a lot of FSB holes, so if someone can tell me their FSB, memory timings and voltage settings would give it a last try, have myself tried, 1250, 1220,1200, 1180, 1165.mmm on second thought this time around i didnt try the 4-4-4-12-2T settings, does any1 feel that this particular timing might help?

@baasha The reset button Tip did work, although have read it before as well but never tried it myself coz i forgot, :), but that saved a lot of headache for me, tyvm.

man-o-man...how can this motherboard be so much recommended? yes it did work deepak....tyvm....but with such fsb holes how can it be a recommended overclocking motherboard, if i didnt have my TE experts with me, i would have kept on trying anything and everything but still might not have worked it out.

Though i was starting to miss my p5b dlx but if this motherboard passes orthos test for the next 24 hours then maybe i will forget all the problems it gave to me.
 
Hmm, well apart from the FSB holes it has with the E4300, it still is a pretty damn good board...especially for the price, the crown of which has been taken by the XFX 650i Ultra these days...

What are the load temps like?

Now do one thing if you are in some testing mood, keep on lowring the vcore till the system is unstable, then slightly increase the vcore till you get to the minimum required vcore for the 3GHz ur E4300 needs....

Then go upwards of 1333Mhz....:P

I have a very similar set up as yours (E4300/Asus P5N-e SLI) with the same exact problems. My comp will simply not post or stay stable at anything higher than a 2.25Ghz overclock..even then its somewhat sketchy. I will go home tonight and give your current settings a try and see what happens. Thanks to all who contributed.

you know, if i hadnt run my e4300 on my p5b-dlx motherboard successfully @ higher speeds then i would've thought that maybe i got unlucky and 2.25 is the limit of my e4300.

hehehehe, though i am satisfied but i think no harm in trying for higher clocks specially since my load temps are 48-50C :hap2:
man i was also on lookout for a xfx 650i specially since this mobo was supposed to be backup and wanted a cheap solution but that was out of stock in all of Nehruplace and didnt have the patience to wait for another couple of days, so bought this one.

Coolermaster aquagate r80, alongwith 1 120mm panaflo and 1 glaciatech 120mm LED fan in the chassis. My MB temp infact rises when i keep my chassis open and hence was thinking of selling the r80 since with that i have to keep the side open, but now i have done a great mod on my chassis so that i can keep the side closed. My r80 is hooked to the backpanel now with a kinda thickish wool rope...hehehehehehehe....:rofl: :hap2:

and btw those load temps are after about 1 hr of orthos blend test, checked through coretemp, speedfan and asusprobe.

remember to upgrade the bios as mentioned before by our experts and do let us know when you are successful with your oc.

hmmm....i think i hit the FSB hole again, tried 1365, 1380, 1400 didnt work. Will reach home by 7 and then would start trying again, btw if you have any more of your working FSBs please do help.
 
I posted this issue in the past in my board testing thread.

With certain steppings of E4300 this board has FSB hole issues.

This means it works great at say 1066Mhz FSB. But wont work at 1067Mhz.

This is known issue with this board.

The workaround is to jump to default straps directly.

800-1066-1333 Mhz straps are confirmed 100% working with any chip ( depends on overclocking ability in the end )

If its not booting at anything above 1100 just jump directly to 1333Mhz.

This will make cpu run @ 3Ghz.

Make ur vcore to 1.4 ( you can always go lower afterwards), FSB voltage to 1.38 and keep memory @ stock with memory unlinked and using 2T.

Hopefully new bios will fix this issue with E4300, no other chips have this issue as my 6420 works just fine at any damn frequency.

I still rate this board over xfx 650i for serious enthusiast due to limited memory voltage options on XFX.
 
Got past the 3.0 ghz barrier, now running @ 3.3Ghz, so now i can confirm that 1465 is another good FSB for this board. Running the orthos test as of now to see whether its stable or not.

41C on the CPU at that clock looks great..wat r ur load temps..?

and wat heatsink r u using..?

another thing..isnt 49s for 2M a bit low at this speed..

as of now speedfan and assusprobe showing 52C while running orthos blend test, but i have seen it going up till 55-56C,

vCore : 1.41
NB : 1.5
Memory : 2.01~

Would be trying to down the voltages and post back later.

Tried a bit optimisation but nothing seems to help, at best i got 47s for 2M and 18s for 1M.
Some1 has to look at that score and tell me whether its reasonable or bad.
