My friend wants to build a system thats equivalent of DELL XPS 8000 (65k) The Dell Online Store: Build Your System
I suggested this config, but its ~70k & VAT not included.

He's pissed off with the graphic card that DELL has in offer, a P.O.S GT220

Model---------------------Details---------------------------------Rate
i5 - 750 -----2.66 GHz Turbo Boost To 3.2 GHz, 8MB Cache--------9975
Intel------DP55WG------16x, S, L, DDR3--------------------------8600
Corsair-----TW3X4G-1333C9----4GB (2 x 2GB)---------------------8460
Corsair-----650W Power Supply--------Single Rail------------------7550
Hitachi-------Deskstar 1TB HDD 32MB 7200RPM Sata HDD----------5775
Creative Inspire -----5.1 T6100-----------------------------------3650
DELL -----20 " - ST2010F Wide HDMi------------------------------7700
Microsoft----- Natural Ergo Desktop Keyboard Keyboard + Mouse-- 6380
Power Color-----1GB ATI PCX-16X,D,DDR5-----------------------10100
Sony 24X Internal DVD RW (AD-7240S-ODD)----------------------1285
NZXT Lexa Blackline Red LED Cabinet-----------------------------5920
Total========================================75395

He wants to have a home theater kind of setup with some gaming.

his preference is 24" monitor (XPS), great performance (he's on P4 now :P).

Whic things can be compromized.

i have no idea on motherboards offered by other brands, ATX is preferred.

he wants classy Cabinet :D

can you guys config a i5 system @65k. (5770 gfx. card is also preferred)

Processor: Intel Core i-5 750- 10k
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2 - 6.7k
RAM: Corsair/GSkill 2*2GB RAM ~ 5.7k
GPU: Sapphire 5770 1GB GDDR5(DX11)- 11k
HDD: Seagate 1TB SATAII 7200.12 series - 4k
Cabinet: CoolerMaster 590 - 3.8k
SMPS: Corsair VX 550W - 5.8k
Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k
Speakers: Creative Inspire 5.1 T6100 - 3.6k
Monitor: Benq 24" G2412HD - 11.6k
Keyboard: Logitech Multimedia - .5k
Mouse: Logitech MX518 - 1.4k
Mouse Pad: SteelSeries QcK Mini - .5k
Total : 65-66k.
So this should is a nice config for 65k. You can go for the HD5850~16k if you want more GPU power. Else this would do.

hmm. how about this:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 925: 7.3k

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-US2H: 5.5k

RAM: Corsair/GSkill 2*2GB RAM ~ 5.7k

GPU: Sapphire HD5850 : 17k

HDD: Seagate 1TB SATAII 7200.12 series - 4k

Cabinet: Coolermaster Elite 335: 2.5k

SMPS: Corsair VX450W - 4k

Optical Drive: L.G. GH22NS30 SATA/Samsung SH-S22F SATA - 1.1k

Speakers: Logitech X-540 5.1 : 5.5k

Monitor: Benq 24" G2412HD - 11.6k

Keyboard: Logitech Multimedia - .5k

Mouse: Logitech MX518 - 1.4k

Mouse Pad: SteelSeries QcK Mini - .5k

If he is a casual gamer, then shed off HD5850 and include GTX260 for 10.5k, then put the saved amount in getting a good sound card that can deliver Dolby/DTS richness like ASUS Xonar series of cards. And also get wireless k/b and mouse which will be good to operate when sitting away from the system.

can anyone who lives in Bangalore, suggest a reputed shop where he can get all these & if possible with some discount? :D

he prefers the new i series of intel :P & DX11 for that ATi's audio on gfx board thingy.

@Haddock, check these stores in SP Road

Golcha Inner trade

Ankit Infotech

Sagar Computers

My pick always has been Golcha.

Can you please be more specific when you meant home theatre and some gaming. For 70% multimedia and 30% gaming, you can assemble a rig that has a decent quad core processor like Athlon II X4 and put on a stunning cabinet, bluray player, mid range sound card, top quality speakers etc.

its more like 50-50
Home theater 50%, Gaming 50%

his PC becomes a Home Theater on weekends only, rest of the week he's either editing videos (home videos) or gaming (not whole day :P ).

His dad wants to buy the DELL XPS 8000, but this guy wants a system, that performs for every ruppee spent on it.

GT220 is pos, right?

anyways, he is adamant on goin for intel.

btw, thanks for the shop names,i'll tell him to get a quotation from there.
if, say somethin fails, do we send the defective part (gfx card or hdd...) to the shop or do we have to search its service center?

blue ray is a no-no for now.

: is a Corsair 550W enough for 1TB HDD & ati 5770?

ah okay.

Even a VX450W is more than enough for HD5770. Believe me, HD5770 takes very very less power and is also very low on performance when compared to HD4890 or GTX275.

4890 is the top end card, isnt it?

thing is, his dad'll kick his arse if blows 17k on gfx card. :P

& well he's not hardcore gamer, just want a gfx. card which can play games at native resolution of LCD screen. not maxing the gfx. settings either.
games he plays are, GTA4, Dirt2, Fallout 3, Bioshock, Dragon Age Origins, MW2.

btw, @Karthi007, is that RAM 1333?

& is that small 5.1 enough?

is Corsair 450W really enough? i mean, will it handle the Intel's auto over clocking?
& if in future he wants to add another HDD or gfx card, will that 450Watt PSU handle the load?

i've told him to get quotation on this config.

comes around 65k

He asked whether to get BenQ or Samsung or DELL.
which do you recommend, stretching for 22"-24" is okay he said.
btw, does 5770 beat atleast 4850? :P

do remember that Creative T6100 is not a good set. And Logitech X-540 is much much better than this one.
VX450W can take HD5850 too but not cards like GTX275/HD4890. HD5770 is faster than HD4850. I really see no reason to get HD5770 for 11.5k. It's more of a 7k-8k rupee card.

The RAM is 1333MHz only. The difference between the 1333MHz and 1600Mhz is less than 2-3% and doesnt really matter much in the real world apps.

Conclusion - Review Tom's Hardware : LGA 1156 Memory Performance: What Speed DDR3 Should You Buy?

The HD5770 is mostly on par with the HD4870 :D

Stretch the budget and go for a 24" for 11-12k. Its worth it.

i mean any of these three - Golcha Inner trade, Ankit Infotech, Sagar Computers.

5850 is also not worth 17k :P , it'll be in 10k range in 3-4 months, but can he (we) wait w/o gfx card for that long :P :P

thanks for the link karthi

Well, what you wrote below shows he wants a hardcore gamer rig...so tell him to cushion his arse well...! :) Heck...he wants to game ful HD..! HD4890 is highest end, of an old series line up. The HD4xxx series. Now the HD5xxx are latest.

Well you want a 24" monitor. Native resolution for that is 1920x1080 or 1920 x 1200 (?..correct). And well...errrr...to play at this native resolution, with decent FPS, you need the types of cards being suggested here. Else he will have to downsize the game play resolution on his lovely 24" full HD monitor and play with a less powerful card -- which is pretty crappy.

The 450W is a bare minimum. It will get your system up and running, and keep it running. Bare in mind you should not (not saying cannot) OC gpu and/or CPU, add too many extra devices...for example 5 more HDDs. There is no Intel auto over clock. Were you trying to relay something else..?. Yes, the CPU does downclock when not stressed, and then spins out more cycles when stressed (more power) -- but the Corsair 450W can handle this. NO, it will never handle 2 GPUs, which need external power connectors.

My personal choice is DELL here. Yes, the HD5770 will beat the HD4850.

about intel cpu, i was referring to the Turbo Boost technology :D
i've linked him to this thread, now he's confused with 5770 & 5850 :P

he wants the 5850, but its price puts him off.

going to SP rd. on monday.

then let him get GTX275. however tempting HD5770 looks due to DX11, it doesn't deserve that price tag. It's more of a 7k-8k card. A GTX275 can easily beat it. Some might say it has DX11 but do you guys really think that this card can do FullHD dx11 gaming without any stutter. I saw somewhere how heavy DX11 rendering can be on GPUs.

he's adamant on dx11/latest stuff.
i'll update here when he gets a quotation :D

btw, whats up with DELL, i thought XPS was a gaming pc, but they equipped with a pos gt220.
no option to upgrade the gfx card either.
