PC hanging while playing

well games or apps freeze for three main issues..
power, heating or just software..
now we have confirmed that it is not a heating issue..it might be coz of less power..
as cyrux had pointed out before, what is the 12V amperage of your PSU?
to check PSU stabilty..run something like 3dmark 2005 or aquamark and monitor your voltages along the different rails with everest or the utility provided with the mbo(if it is).

modern pc s stress the 12v rail maximum as processors, grphics cards all draw their power from that line, not forgetting the fans.
so check ur PSU is ok.it should not fluctuate more than +/- 5 % under load.

Thanks tirthankar

I think that there is problem with the power supply then. I remember the voltage level as 8.06V in the +12V rail using Speedfan. Will confirm that tonight. So is that the reason for the system freezing up..? It could be as my s/m is pretty loaded with 2 harddisks, 2 DVD drives etc.

Are you sure you saw 8.06V ?? Check again with other applications like Everest .. if its true , discontinue using your PC and change the Power Supply Unit .

Tried to check the different rail voltages.. But they are not displayed in everest (tried with all the available versions). Only a couple of results are obtained from speedfan which are as below.

+2.5V: 0.00V +3.3V: 3.7V

Vcore: 0.00V +1.5V: 0.0V

+3.3V: 0.00V +1.8V: 0.0V

+5V: 0.00V

+12V: 8.06V

Using everest home only debug info is coming in voltage values

Voltage Values

Field Value

Debug Info F FF FF FF FF 00 FF 00 FF

Debug Info T C4 26 23 73

Debug Info V 00 00 00 00 81

Problems with the sensor? I tried using one utility that came with the mobo(PC Alert4), but that too is not reporting any voltage.

man..change your power supply now..

8.06 is waaay to low..you will end up damaging your components..

on second thoughts..i've never heard of such low voltages.infact your pc should not be running at all.what pbu are you using?
maybe another bios bug?

try to get hold of a dmm and check the voltages urself while running something like 3dmark05..

use this guide..

Thanks tirthankar

Got hold of a DMM and checked the voltages as specified in that link.

Got the following voltages(checked when the system was booting up)

1) 3.3V rail - 3.3V

2) 5V rail - 5.2V

3) 12V rail - 12.1V

Didnt check the voltages while running 3dmark as u said as I dont have 3dmark with me. Will run some game and check the voltage levels tomorrow and put the results

Anyways, since the voltage values seems consistent now, the reason for the hanging could be the software bugs in the games itself!!
