Hi,
i'm posting this thread on behalf of my friend.

I cannot figure out what exactly gone wrong with his PC ..i'll try to explain the problem.

-The Hard Disk gets corrupted frequently, he has replaced it more than 5 times in 6 months.
-And same thing happens with DVD writer too .

The new ones works fine for one or two weeks then the System Booting takes forever, finally the hard disk gets corrupted.

-At first i thought its the problem with PSU so i suggested him to change it ..and he did . but no luck :(same thing happening again.

now i think it must be problem with CPU or Mother board ....these are only left suspects..!!!

FYI: he has the UPS so no Direct shutdowns or power loss... which causes hard disk issues sometime.

Configuration:

Mobo - Gigabyte GA-MA69VM-S2
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
PSU - Zebroinic 450 w
HDD - 500 Gb ,7200 rpm,32 Mb cache (Replaced 5 times)
DVD-RW =Sony
RAM - DDR2 ,2GB Dynet
OS -windows 7 Ultimate

plz help me with this.

-Regards

Re: PC Troubleshooting , help needed..:(

From what I remember reading on APC's site, non-sine wave UPSs have been reported to cause gradual deterioration of the HDDs, but definitely not this frequently. My guess lies with a faulty PSU (try Corsair or any reputed company's PSU instead of Zebronics) and then some kinda motherboard problem.

Why don't you try running his rig:

a) At your house, so that the UPS problem is ruled out.

b) with your PSU, so that any PSU issues (if any) be ruled out.

Re: PC Troubleshooting , help needed..:(

PSU - Zebroinic 450 w !!!!!!

Where in the world are you?I too almost lost my HDD because of that PSU.Things aren't that easy dude.

change ram and see....and check earthing if you can....do u oc ? get a better Psu then zebronics...check or change cables...

1. First of all check the mains, grounding and get it rectified.

2. Which UPS is he using? Get it checked too. Use a voltmeter to measure the voltage when under load.

3. PSU seems to be THE CULPRIT HERE. Get a new BETTER Power supply. Cheapest FSP Active PFC PSU will do the job perfectly since you're getting ripped off by the cheap PSUs.

Please check everything else too,
4. Perform a memtest on the memory till 4 passes at least.

5. For the board you should go through the RMA :) process just to get it checked as if it's bad it'll again spoil some other thing and I would not suggest you to try checking it yourself. Usually a board cannot cause such serious harm to other stuff and still survive.

Re: PC Troubleshooting , help needed..:(

Repeat hard disk corruption points to mainly two things - faulty power supply and/or faulty memory.

We have cheap UMax/Zebronics/Intex/FronTech/Odyssey PSUs in the PCs at my office - and of these only Intex has given me problems (mainly noise and burn-outs, but no HDD corruption). Some of these have been running for over 3 years now without any issues. But if you had to replace your HDD five times, I think it is best to play it safe and invest in a decent PSU like Corsair or Antec or CoolerMaster.

Secondly, if the memory has flaws then it can also cause slow degradation of the HDD. Boot your PC into DOS and run a proper memory test to check that your RAM is working as it should. If you find any errors, then replace it immediately.

Lastly, monitor your HDDs status regularly using a HDD tool so that you can catch any signs of degradation early on and have time save your data.

Cheers.

there are two RAMs installed i'll check each individualy and get back to you.

-Thanx for your help

Checking PSU in other PC does not make the PSU good.If you need to check it,you need a multimeter.

check Ram with memtest and i recommend atleast 4 passes..if that is passing then ram wud be good...Also maybe it might be your luck that ur getting a bad hdd everytime u replace it :P

..errr it doesn't mean it's good. Since you have problem with HDD failure than you must need to consider GOOD PSU.
