What if i go for a Phenom II.... what PSU should i get then ?

Dont go for the PII now. Intel is a lot better and cheaper.

In any case, u've to get a better PSU sooner or later. Hang on to this one for now. Get the VX450 when u've enough moolah. Its back to around 3.8k now (Mumbai pricing).

E7300/E7400 or Q6600
(your take on quad or dualie- PS will benefit from Quad i think.
New games showing improvement on quads but not that it's unplayable on dualies by a huge margin, esp when OCed.
Since you wont be OCing, E7300 and Q6600 will feel almost similar for u i think except for 3dsmax and stuff.
Price difference in the 2 above is still significant enough with Q6600 prices having gone up and so you have to decide, esp keeping your upgrade history/pattern in mind. :))

Gigabyte G31-S2L - 2.3K odd or lower (check out mobo pics on newegg etc if a matx mobo is ok for u)
Gigabyte EP31-DS3L- 3.5K odd (full atx and more pci slots iirc)

Transcend 800Mhz 2GB x 2 - 2300 (was 2050-2100/- for 4GB iirc and these can be run CL4.0 at DDR2 800 too.
So no need for fancier RAM imho unless- (1) you OC and (2) you get it on your own, as it will cost you more through KMD for features you are not exactly exploiting )

VX 450 psu- no compromise on this imho. :)

Antec 300, CM590, CM690. (case with 1-2 120mm fans for exhaust, good hdd spacingf, front fan for intake and cooling hdd and psu at a the bottom mainly is very helpful)

BTW, Intel price cuts expected soon na? :)

Ok, here is the final update that i am gonna make this weekend...

E8400

4GB Transcend 800 Mhz RAM

VX450

CM690

ATi 4850

Now i need info quickly..

I have an Intel G33 board with me.... this one

Intel Desktop Board DG33BU - Overview

Now what would u guys say, if i use this board..... any issues or any trouble.... ?

^^ no issue at all.. Intel orginal boards are usually rock stable but with limited or no overclocking options in bios..:)

+1 for chassis

Processor - E8400 / Q6600

Chassis - CM334 / NZXT Alpha

PSU - Corsair VX450

GPU - Sapphire HD4850 512MB

RAM - OCZ DDR2 4GB (2x2) 800Mhz

Motherboard - Go for a decent Gigabyte one. I'll update on this today ;)

Abs no OC'ing options with that motherboard, be warned!! With that processor going EOL in sometime, u wouldn't want to feel sorry.

Ask someone to ship the Gigabyte G31-S2L from Mumbai. Prime/The IT Wares/Amarbir all should stock at least a board.

Rest of the config seems to be good enough. :)

Oh and make sure u get a non-reference cooler based 4850 like the Palit Sonic/Dual Sonic.

i already have a Gecube 4850 :)

Buying a new mobo isnt a problem and the Gigabyte G31 is available here..... its jst that i have this intel board lying spare with me and i dont need to overclock anyways.... ;)

any1 knows where nZxt cabinets are available in Delhi ??

btw... EOL is ??

hmm... so if E8400 is going to be EOL... which is the best option to go for ?

How does Phenom II + VX450+ 4GB RAM + CM334 sound... ofcourse have got a couple of AM2 motherboard lying in the office, would pick one up... ;)

sounds cool but you will need a AM2+ motherboard supporting 125W TDP AMD Processors

better use:

Intel Q6600

Intel DG33BU

4GB Transcend 800 Mhz RAM

VX450

CM690

ATI 4850

but if you have a AM2+ motherboard supporting 125W TDP AMD Processors buy phenom II as it beats Intel Q6600

ok guys... since i am going with Phenom II 920... here are the two options that i have...

I have got an ECS AMD690GM-M2 - ECS Web Site

THis i dont think supports Phenom II...

the other option i have is the Asus M3A-H/HDMI

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

Can u guys tell me out of these which would work with Phenom II... and if both would work then which one is the better option to go for >>

Thanks..

Phenom II WOW :D Awesome CPU :) Get a Jetway 790 GX Motherboard .. I have one and its quite a VFM considering 790GX is the elite offering from AMD>.

It retails for 6k and with tax you can get it at 6.2-6.3k .. 790 GX has support for both PII and 145W CPUS :)

That will suffice your need and has great potential for OC and other purposes :)

The onboard GFX [though you have 4850] has HDMI, DVI, optional Esata.. port for all the entertainment and connectivity needs ):)

Asus M3A-H/HDMI is a 780G motherboard so it supports both AM2+ & AM3 125W Phenom II Processors but do not use a 140W Phenom II Processor

The ECS is 690G so it won't support

if you are buying new buy a Jetway HA07 or Asus M3A78-EM or Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H

:rofl: You should start working for Jetway/AMD marketing :tongue:

try reading some of the OP's posts sometimes

@icefusion..

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

would be putting in Phenom II 920.... what do u say for the config now.. ?

Phenom II 920

Asus M3A-H/HDMI

4GB 800Mhz RAM
