Problem with your generation is you willingly handover all your data to Facebook and Google Android but you fail to understand that govt has far more authority to protect the citizens and if government does it for safety of its citizen

EU through its GDPR has been ensuring that there is a balance between privacy and Data collection. So yes, people can do shit about it if they want, made aware of abuse of privacy and mobilised to form a law which ensures the same for its citizens. The govt is trying to fend off a similar initiative from WA to agree to TnC which clearly disregards user's privacy.
So yes, a Union has ensured privacy to an extent in the presence of digital links and radio tower. And they are still living outside the woods.

Govt job is to protect citizen from non-state actors, more specifically, terrorists to ensure no untoward incident happen which dangers national security. Are you suggesting that a leader from an Opposition, a member of Election Commission, judges, journalists, a molested woman are terrorists?

This thread was not meant to be political. It is about how over-surveillance allegedly by a govt can have deleterious consequences for it's citizens. Surveillance is to keep track of your enemy, not your own people. And even if they do it against citizens(with proof), there has to be accountability and proper discussion in the parliament.
To the mods, some people clearly post for the sake of derailing a debate. This unnecessarily leads to closure of the threads for no fault of the OP defeating the very purpose of why forums exist. I hope members read what @Renegade has mentioned about posts like these..
