I have bought lots of stuff from ebay and have never had any hassles.

Try to purchase from power-sellers and use paypal.

eBay is good for smaller stuffs.. I never thing buying some big stuffs over it.. It's too risky, eBay is not Secure site to get big deals done :(

Once I got refund for dead memory card arrival.. That was good experience with me.. but still don't trust every seller on eBay

PS - as above post says, Power Sellers are always good..

I have also got similar experiance , i purchased GTA4 for PS3 worth Rs. 2399 and after 8 days the seller got de-registered from ebay . thank god i had recieved the product . but it was long time the seller has forgot to left feedback .

dont trust even power sellers for bigger things like cellphones, cameras or laptops

u just cant trust anyone on ebay, its good for small stuff only!!

guys i bought a LINKSYS WRT54G router from ebay, it was a used product, i have given my home address for shipping since i had some 8-10 holidays @ home,,, but the seller delayed the shipment and it reached home when i left to college hostel.... and i gave him a positive feedback... but when i came back home after a month and try to setup the router, i found that the power LED keeps on blinking and i am not able to get the homepage of the router thru ethernet cable nor thru wifi.. i called the seller and told the problem and he told me that he checked the product before shipping !!! and i convinced him and he asked me send back the product and if it was faulty he will replace me with some other... so i shipped it back.. now when it reached him, he says that he cant replace it and telling that i tried to upgrade the firmware.... ! ! ! !see how disgusting it is....... i am writing this coz to be more cautious when u buy from ebay... there are many fraud sellers like him in ebay....

his id is bharatrajasekhar

beware of him....

As far as ebay siding seller more than buyer, I would say disagree with that. Actually even I used to think like that earlier until an incident happened to me. I was selling a used iPhone on ebay on behalf of my friend. It was in a bidding process in which you HAVE to sell your product to the highest bidder no matter even if the bid is too low as per your expectations. But you do have an option to set a reserve bid.

Now, when I listed the product the phone was working completely fine and the listing was for a week. But after 2 days, the phone betrayed us and the screen went kaput. Upon showing it to local dealer he said the screen digitizer needs to be replaced and will cost us 4k. But there was a cheap temporary desi solution as well that he mentioned to keep the phone running for few days. We could have gone ahead with that and sent the product to the buyer but we choose not to and communicated the same to the highest bidder.

We mutually cancelled the deal but the bidder/buyer left me a negative feedback saying "The seller cost him his time and mental torture!" I was like WTF! Took the case to ebay court and the result was in my favor. The feedback was removed!

In short, it's not always seller but even buyers are a problem at times. It's just that we are rarely on the other side! And after my recent Naaptol experience, I truly feel that ebay is one of the safest place to buy/sell online!

but in case the seller is a fraud the buyer has a very little protection.

I disagree, In fact think eBay is very favorable towards buyers as long as you use Paisa Pay. The seller simply won't get his money till you confirm receipt and you can even do that after checking everything is in order. If the seller don't ship within the time limit, you will get a refund automatically.

Well I fail to see any problem from ebay's side here. Unless you are talking about an incident that happened long back, ebay has specific time limits for seller to ship products and you would have to plan according to that. If you except that you will always get a two days from the date of ordering, that doesn't happen. If the seller exceeds the time limit and he doen't ask for a time extension (which you need to approve to come into effect), a refund is initiated automatically. After you get the prodcut, you are supposed to verify the condition of the product to your satisfaction before leaving feedback. In your perticular case, who knows if the router actally got bricked during the original transit and while you thought that the seller sent you a faulty product they seller may be thinking that you bricked it while trying yo install a custom firmware or something.

If you receive the product (sign the paper of courier company), you have to confirm in ebay. If the product is not working, then we need to open a case, then follow it up.
Correct me if i am wrong

Well i have had both good deals and bad deals on ebay, but i still buy from there i dunno how many items the users here have bought who are having this discussion on the thread but i am a Bazeee.com user who moved to ebay and thats how long i have been trading online. I have bought over 70 items in ebay till today.

While buying u have to check seller rating, product description, warranty and feedback it helps. Also if in doubt contact the seller and get clarification.

My friend during bazee days bought some adults cd as it was costing just 400 buks and included KS in it....U know during skool days kids were krazzy abt it...What he got was 4-5 pirated south indian low quality movies...he threw all of them same day...lolz

I have only used ebay twice so far no bad memory..touchwood

They haven't sent me the free 80GB hard drive yet. Been contacting the customer support and chatting with the representatives. I think I'll play another game with them next time and ensure that I get 2 hard drives.

You have to contact the seller first and see if you can settle things. If that doesn't happen you can open a dispute on ebay. The seller will not get your money till everything is settled.

I ordered a battery for a panasonic cordless phone. According to the pics and description on eBay it was a genuine Panasonic battery but i received a fake replica. How should i deal with this ? The seller isn't replying to my messages.

^Contact the eBay CC and explain the situation. Keep some photos clicked and uploaded just in case.

Now that this thread has been bumped up, let me also put forth my one bad experience with Ebay so far.
I had ordered a Samsung netbook last December and used the Christmas gift coupon for the same. I'm supposed to receive an 80GB HDD. What was promised as within 45 days has now prolonged to more than 6 months, with regard to the gift delivery. Been contacting ebay through phone and mail for the past 4 months regularly (at least 10 to 15 mails and calls each), yet to no avail. Contacted the superiors of call center guys (for the last 3 times I did not even speak much to the CC guy... just asked him to connect to his superior directly), yet the same reply as if they were rote learning it (We are aware of your situation sir. We are very sorry. We have already escalated your issue to the highest possible level. We will ship the product in the next 4 to 5 days). Frustrated. What makes it more irritating is that the purchase was made on behalf of a friend.
This is the reason why I don't buy from ebay nowadays. Fortunately, Smartshoppers has been an excellent alternative thus far. And their customer care at least does not respond like a robot.

^Haha I had the very same experience which i have shared already - bought a Samsung N128 netbook last December and did not receive my 80GB RAID STORE drive until April. Countless emails, chats with CC and what not. I really got irritated and one day the gift showed up. :P

Do not confirm item received if you have not already confirmed it.

Go to Help>Resolution Center>Resolve a problem.

Select

I bought an item>I received an item that does not match the seller's description

Click next to

Open a Case: Choose item

Follow the instructions and open a dispute.

I have to tell you that the same thing had happened with my watch which I was supposed to get from Tata Sky. t finally turned out that they had shipped the product had my neighbor had very conveniently taken it and forgotten to tell me about it over a month. Maybe this is the issue here.
