Microsoft just confirmed the news that Peter Moore resigned from Microsoft.

Microsoft Corp. today announced that Don Mattrick, a former president at Electronic Arts Inc. (EA), will lead the Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), which includes overseeing the Xbox and Games for Windows businesses. Peter Moore, who currently serves as corporate vice president of IEB, has decided to move his family back to the Bay Area for personal reasons and has secured another opportunity in the video games industry.

Mattrick will take over as the senior vice president of IEB at Microsoft, effective July 30. Mattrick was the founder of Distinctive Software Inc., which operated as a private company from 1982 until its merger with EA in 1991. Mattrick held various senior positions within EA, most recently as president of Worldwide Studios, until his resignation in February 2006. In February 2007, Mattrick began working with the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft as an external advisor.

The news came fast and furious today when both EA and Microsoft confirmed that Peter Moore would soon be leaving MS to head up EA Sports.

Pachter noted that Moore "has impressive credentials as a CEO and in high profile marketing positions, and we believe he will be able to leverage this experience to cement EA Sports' dominance. We note that the more committed EA is to its sports business, the more likely it is to defend market share, making it tough for competitors like Take-Two Interactive."

There has been lots of speculation on the hiring of Mr. Mattrick, Xbox fans react to news of Moore resigning. Some were quoted as

Mr. Mattrick, if you read this, please take care not to change the 'flavor' of Xbox 360 any. It's primarily a hardcore gamers' console of choice and we like it that way. Don't add in many more advertisements, and please don't make our games lineup 'soft' in any way. Take chances, but stick to us, the core audience of men 18-35 or so. We love our stuff the way it is! Just add to it, don't detract.

Thank you, Peter Moore! We all wish you luck in all of your endeavors, personal or business.

We're doomed. Seriously. Dreamcast360.

It's been great having you as the Xbox community head Peter. From Sega to Microsoft, you helped in leading the charge in making video gaming better. You will be missed by this Dreamcast/Xbox fan.
Wishing you the best @ EA Sports!
