Hello ijust bought a 720 0904 and a giga MA790FX UD5P boardand i have set up the bios F3b on the board. When i set ACC on auto the pc doesn't start. I want to install the vista ultimate 64-bit. Can somebody tell me what to do? Maybe to tell me step by step what to do.
Thanks

@amul, am using a vendetta 2 and its very nice and cool....my cpu idles at 27 and load temps are 40 or so...this is at OC 3.2 Ghz.

@dimi80, I think you need the F2B bios for the unlock to work...cheers and let us know how it went..

Dont need anything more than 3Ghz for 24/7, also the temps and voltages are easy on the cpu. I dont wnt to run this on a 24/7 basis at 3.5 Ghz, as that would mean 1.5v and thats not very good for continuous running.

I have downclocked it to 3Ghz and staying there as it is ok for now. I keep playing with it now and then just to see if more can be achieved, or can I get better memory settings or core v's can be lower etc.

hola !
i m new in te but i joined it cause i have a similar intrest.
i have just purchased a x3 720 and a asus m3a78em this sunday
i have instaled vista ultimate and my pc is runing properly
the processor is on its stock cooler and when i turn my pc on the temps are aprox 39 degrees
my aim is to over clock the cpu to 3.1Ghz
I DONT KNOW WHAT IS cpu-z OR HOW DOES ONE OVERCLOCK cpus but i hope with the help of some awesomely cool geeks i could do it
please help i m a complete newbie when it comes to over clocking
please state every thing step by step ..............please i request!!!!!!

You can't unlock the fourth core on a 780G board (unless it's the ECS 780G+SB750 board, which it isn't).

Since you're new to overclocking, I'd suggest you install AMD Overdrive (available on the AMD website) and overclock from there. Very user friendly and easy to use. Try it!

Congrats, Man I downgraded to dual core from quad, and no regret. Was worried abt power bills n all. Also dual core is perfect for gamers.

how much more power will a quad q6600 eat than a regular dual core? I run my q6600 idle with 9800gtx and 640gb hdd using 100w.

And one more question If I upgrade to core i7 will the power consumption be outrageous :S ? I mainly do maya and rendering.

Just got my Phenom X3 720 BE and unlocked the 4th core. I have a Gigabyte 790 GX motherboard anyways to check the stability of the 4th core ? Speedfan and Core temp not showing my cpu temperature (showing 0 deg (?)) any clues on that

I have the same issue. Apparently, once you unlock the fourth core, no program can sense its temps. Try the board status tab in AMD Overdrive. That usually works.

I have heard unlocking 4th core is unstable....Is there anyway to test the same ? I am not facing any issues on my Vista 64 bit.

you can try prime 95 or amd overdrive stability test for about two hrs. I dont like OCCT, but a lot of people here use it. Try at stock speeds of 2.8, with all four cores and you should get your answer. Keep an eye on your temps if you are on stock cooling, and back off if it crosses 65 degs. Use HW monitor to check core temps.

Ran OCCT it for 90-100 mins did not face any issues, temperatures went to 62 (stock cooling) on HW monitor guess its more or less stable.

Looks ok....with stock cooling be careful...dont go too high with the OC. I think you can now try for 100-200 mhz higher with STOCK volts only. SO take your multiplier up by .5, then by another .5 and report back. By then u should be at 3Ghz anyway. I think you can go to 3.2 Ghz on stock volts itself.

Not looking to overclock, will get a good cooler and then try it, guess 4 cores will suffice as of now...Is it recommended to have Cool n Quiet on, cause it is changing multipliers on the fly as per the application needs.
