For a temporary solution, maybe try reducing the animations on your phone. There should be an option called "Reduce Animations" in settings, or you could also reduce the animation scale through developer options. It won't help in any ram management issues or app opening times but it will help with lags or stutters.

Btw, i'd recommend checking Infinix Note 30 out as well. Other than an AMOLED display, it suits most of your requirements. It has a 1.5k HDFC/SBI cc offer on its 8/256GB variant as well. Infinix is a reliable brand, I bought one for a senior citizen a couple of years back and it's still going strong.

Just curious, since you mentioned it's for someone older, what phone are they using now? Switching to a different UI may be too much. Heck my younger sister complained after I got her a Moto after years of her using mi phones that the UI was too unfamiliar

UI won't be an issue, I'll put the icons for WhatsApp, YouTube and Phone on the front page. They don't touch the other stuff apart from turning wifi on or off

All recently launched Xiaomi/redmi/poco devices doesn't even have a proximity sensor.

That's one disturbing trend for sure. When exactly did this begin?

Samsung is using a virtual proximity sensor stuff as well

The sensor was not there when i made my brother buy the Mi 11x. Not sure when they started this.

Its a small amount on BOM but still they do it. Like years ago it was found that to get IP68 certification, it would cost the company $8 or 10. Yet OP chose to not get it for years.

Companies just want to maximise profits, but phones have not been exciting post-2020 IMO. I used to change phones within 2 years till 2017, then used S8 for 4 years, my S20FE is already 2+ years old now, will likely use it for years to come. My biggest issue with S20FE is the size. Right now I won't even get an upgrade over S20FE in all respects if I switch to any phone under 40k (OP12R has an inferior ultrawide cam & no tele for instance, nor the SD card slot but 256GB storage should be fine).
