I got a mail today from ICICI Bank and it mentioned that from August 1, a PIN number system is being applied for the online transactions through the use of credit cards. I am confused about the steps they gave. They mentioned that i can register on ICICI Bank website for the same but did not find any mention on the credit card section. But yes there was a scroll coming which mentioned about this but it redirected me to another website
This one

Here i read that they can also levy charges (it is in the fine print). Isn't this service suppose to be free ??
And also are we suppose to use the above link to register our credit card and its corresponding PIN number.

I am confused as the email states the following steps

1. Buy stuff and check out
2. Authenticate yourself (how ???)
3. Create PIN :S

Does it mean i create the PIN only when i make my next transaction on or after 1st August ?
Or we have to create the PIN now and use the same for double authentication at the time of online purchases.

Will this move affect my Paypal account as i have registered my ICICI Bank credit card there ?

PS: Just to be safe, i DID NOT click the ICICI bank link in email, instead manually entered the website address.

On the ICICI website, towards the right there is a link called Verified by Visa/Mastercard - Register Now, which leads to the site you have mentioned above. You will have to register your card, by confirming your personal details. You will be asked to enter a "Personal Message", and then also choose a password.

Now everytime you do an online transaction with the card, after you enter the card no. and the pin no., it'll connect to the card issuer and display your "personal message" that you had registered, and also ask for the password. Only when the password is accepted, your transaction will go through. So basically, it is a two step security process.. people cannot transact with just your card no. and pin no.. Also the "personal message" makes sure that the site has connected to your card issuer site only and not somewhere else.

Not sure about the paypal transactions.

^^ Thanks for the info..i registered there :)

It will be interesting to see what personal assurance message people put on :ohyeah:

Apparently there are some phishing mails doing the rounds, asking people to register for their PINs. ICICI Bank suggests not to register by clicking on links in any mail, instead to do so from the ICICI Bank website.

^^ That's exactly what i did. Although the link in email was pointing to correct location but still no taking chances
