If u can spend 5k the better go with playon mini its around 6.5k let.me tell u all the players saying it plays 1080p shutters a lot when bit rate goes a bit high so take ur decision accordingly the players which can handle high bit rates are

Popkorn hour easily handles 75mbps at wired 45mbps at wireless

Playon HD wired 60mbps.wireless 30 mbps

Xtreamer wired 50mbps wireless 40mbps

I am in the same position. I had short listed Asus O'Play Mini & Amkette Flash TV HD both similarly priced on eBay. Only amkette has bundled hdmi cable while Asus has not. I see hdmi cables are listed as low as Rs 99 on eBay. So, I guess that doesn't matter much.

Confused on which to buy between the two.

I have been using the POHD Mini. Not faced any stuttering till now.

@dinjo: I went through the release notes of WD Media Live ( Link: Release Notes ). It does not mention anything about 'ogm' support.

I had a few questions regarding WD Media Live:

- I have a LG Scarlette 2.0. The TV has no Optical out so it is connected to HT system (Sony DAV-DZ510) through AV cables in stereo mode. So I plan to use the player's HDMI port for picture only and optical cable for sound.
Fortunately, Sony does support Digital and Analog signal simultaneously in 'TV' mode with first preference given to the digital signal. Please check NOTE on Page 31 of the attached image. I wanted a second opinion on this (that my understanding of the provided note is correct) because I do not have a digital source so was not able to test it ever.

- I have a Samsung portable DVD writer. Is it possible to use it with the player?

- I was originally planning to get the WD TV Live HUB but planning but data transfer seems too painful. Is there really no way to directly connect the player and get it detected as an external drive and copy files to it?

Final question is:
- WD Live
- Optical Audio Cable
- 500 GB/1 TB (WD My Passport/SE) - Splitted in 2 partition in NTFS - Will both partitions get recognized? What happens if folder names at same levels are same - Do the files under them show under the same folder in the menu?
- A wi fi adapter on later date.

^ Will it all work out?

Please help I have no idea about this or how it works?

Thanks & Regards.

^Optical cable, yes it should work if you connect the WD device to the receiver of your HTIB system. Select aux. input on the receiver and fiddle around the settings on the WD device to get the audio out through the optical out and video through HDMI.

^ Thanks for replying.

Could you please comment on the external Portable DVD support and Optical input of Sony.

Also, at around 6.5k is this the best option? Can a player of lesser value match it?

Thanks.

Do u mean it stutters on wireless or LAN connection or just thru usb hdd too??

@ op:

depends on what you play on it.... filesizes and bit rates make all the difference, else its pointless looking at those resolutions

Please suggest me a VFM (read "cheapest") media player with capability to download torrents as well along with the usual bells and whistles.

another important factor is a good and fast interface. the file names are not similar for proper sorting, so need something that would sort it out in a proper way.

Just saw XBMC, its cool, can it be installed on any media player?
