Old game but graphics still look ok, but the gameplay is lot of fun. Good classic game.

Can someone tell me how to reach this thing on the box. I tried tapping the jump button, but cant reach it.

I got the hi-res textures on a 2nd disc inside the box. I am sure someone must have put it 'out there' by now.

impact hammer ftw!....just charge it to max and face downwad...release IH and press jump .............play with timings....u will reach invisibility and damage amplifier in DM-turbine in same fashion.....

..can be done with rocket launcher too though but with a major chace of gibbing urself!

Does the high res textures make a big difference, because I think this is a dx8 game anyway, right?
Also I think detailed textures might slow it down since my vid card is not really high end.

The hi-res textures will make a HUGE difference. Everything will be much much sharper and the bumpmaps will literally be popping out at you.

I remember when I first saw the Earth skymap at CTF-Face with the hi-res textures installed. I couldn't tell whether it's a game or an actual photograph.
Ofcourse this was all in 2000-2001 and may not have the same effect today .

Your 8500GT will handle those textures easily. But you will need a new OpenGL renderer to be able to use them ingame. The default Direct3D renderer can't use them.

Oh and apparently, it's completely legal to share those textures as many earlier versions of the game didn't ship with the 2nd disc.

Thanks for your help with the textures and stuff, but I dont think I could get it to work properly.
These are SS from yesterday with the default direct3D render








The below 2 are after i extracted the new textures and placed them into the textures directory and overwrote the older smaller texture files.



Used the new opengl dll file and also edited the unrealtournament.inf file, but opengl is not listed among the supportered renders.
I can chose to display the non-supported renders, and select "opengl" support, but I think its looking a bit worse with opengl.
The AA seems to be not woring as good.
With direct 3d had good AA and af in the nvidia control panel

Hope this is not becoming too much of the same game.
BTW, i'm getting texture corruption in Far Cry on xp.
The sky and the plants display, but the ground is either always light blue or black.
Any suggestions?

@dsarosh.. prolly unconnected.. but i used to get black textures for sky and water when i had tried to run farcry on my intel gma900 3 years ago

You need to patch Far Cry to version 1.3 or later in order to get it to display correctly on modern GPU's.
Otherwise it will just display random patches of black and blue everywhere.

Im downloading patch 1.31MB. Not sure if the game will work after installing the patch though.... know what i mean?

Your knowledge of various pc games is really good, dude.:hap2:
I installed the patch and now the game renders beautifully.
However, fraps does not work and presing F12 takes some SSs but I dont know where they got saved.

Game is running slow on my card at max details,you think installing the patch 1.4 will improve performance, or the patch is only for compatability sake?

patch 1.3 installs SM 3.0 so far cry will look much better
