I. Apple II plus ......onboard graphics. Gpu = unknown / Dont Remember
II) Sinclair ZX-80 m/c....onboard graphics Gpu = unknown / Dont Remember
8 bit ISA bus Series m/c's (Intel 8086 /8088 cpu series)
initially the os was CP /M ... Then IBMDOS was released.
MSDos came Later ....
till about a year ago i still had these os on 5 1/4 floppies ....
infact had all Dos versions upto 6.2 (or was it 6.3 ??)
1) CGA (Colour Graphics Adapter) - GPU = Dont Remember now but it had 8K Ram and 8K rom
Full Lenght card with a seperate graphic co-processor.

Lots of Discrete logic chips.
2) Cga , Gpu = Dont remember now ...but ram 16K:cool2:
medium sized card. partially integrated core. (meaning less number of discrete chips)
3) Cga = same specs as above ...but small size . highly integrated gpu with onchip bios.
4) MDA = (MonoChrome Display Adapter) ....an apt upgrade from above cards since it supported higher resolutions and refresh rates. .....full length.
By this time Intel 80286 cpu was released. it had 16 Bit Isa Bus support
1) EGA = Enhanced Graphics Adapter ...
Supported higher resolutions. had 48KB ~ 64KB (Kilo Byte)
Ram. Good refresh rates
2) VGA (Video Graphics Adapter) ...first true 640 x 480 support ...Whopee!!!
Gpu = I dont remember now but it was either Trident or Cirrus Logic gpu.
Vesa bus Introduced and later the pci bus introduced.
intel released 80386 and later 80486cpu (It was hyped / marketed as "MainFrame on a Chip"

hyeah: )
Amd Had released their 80386 Compatible chip which ran at 40 Mhz ....a.k.a intel 's 80386 which ran at 33 mhz.
1) 2 ~ 3 vesa bus cards based on cirrus logic chips .....had 256 ~ 512 KB ram... later versions had 1 mb rams
Windows 3.1 and windows for workgroup operating system released ...GUI so ....
1) Bought my first high end graphics card. it was S3 Vision 964 pci bus card with 2 mb of Samsung Vram. (Special dual ported rams)
one of the highest Quality 2D / 3D card ever made. it was a gainward oem. bought it here in mumbai for 14K....
I still have it and sometimes use it to debug motherboards. and i have yet to see a better Picture Quality
for 2D. sadly the card did not support motion compensation hence moving images like movies was software rendered meaning too slow....
Pentium 1 Cpu Released ....Win95 released ...
1) S3 trio card purchased.
AGP1x bus released....
S3 , 3dfx , Trident , Cirrus logic, SIS , ATI were the main leading players at that time ...sadly except for ATI all the rest would vanish within the next 2 years ...atleast in graphic card market....nvidia was just rising ....
1) Bought cards from above mentioned co's except for 3dfx ...which was too costly ....They were the actual Developers of SLI Technology ....quite a craze then ...
Ram was in the region of 4 ~8 mb ....
AGP x 2 released ...Nvidia released their TNT cards and later TNT2...and put many co's out of graphics business ...
Nvidia relased gforce line of Gpu's.
1) Bought creative S3 Savage 4 gfx card for 8K !!!!
2) later Bought Nvidia Gforce1 based card Asus V6600. had 32 mb SGram. (Currently with TE Member Anish on Loan (to be returned) basis. Good picture quality. had bought it for 12.5K ....mumbai.
-----------------------To be Continued ------------
All of the above was purchased last century ...i.e. till December 1999.
E & OE ....especially chronological errors ...so kindly pardon me for any lapses.
phew ... i am tired (you might be too reading all this nostalgia ...)
