Hey, I have a problem with a seller on ebay.
He has sent an item quite different from the image. Should I send message to the seller or open a case directly?

Most of the ebay seller ask buyers to pay return shipping. You must confirm it with your seller.

Shipping is compensated by eBay they will provide you with a coupon for the expense involved in shipping(but you should raise a claim). Some sellers will ask you to send back and then they will take their own time to send you replacement , better go with case as a deadline will be there for the seller.

had this kind of experience twice with ebay in past.. in first case, they arranged reverse pickup (item was bought from ebay.in) & in second case, they asked me to ship the product back to some mumbai address on my expense (product was from geb.ebay.in) & received a cheque of shipping charges within 15 days..

First ask him to resolve the issue if he doesn't agree to cooperate then open a case.

So I opened a case from Summary - Purchases - Item (More actions) - Resolve a problem.
After clicking the final Submit button, I got a message something like Seller have x days to respond after which you can claim eBay Guarantee or something like that. Now, under "Check claim status", there's no claims. Will it be listed there after the seller has replied or not replied untill x-days? Anyone knows how much is x here?

Which Ebay site you were used Ebay.com or Ebay.in.

I think it was Ebay.com, in that case dispute would be handled by paypal not ebay. You could check your claim status in your paypal account. It would take between 10-30 days.

Even though it is OT, but this info is wrong. Ebay.com handle their disputes themselves.
