Hello , my current config is in my siggy . Budget is ~ 20k . Looking forward to i7 2600k , but 2 SATA port problem is holding me back ... Have no clue about the motherboard ... It should have 6+ SATA ports , coz currently all the 4 ports on my intel board are used up , and will be adding up more HDDs later ! ...
Will be using this for next 3-4 years ...

Hope I dont need to wait for 2-3 months :S

Re: Procci + Mobo Upgrade :

The i7 2600K costs ~16.9k. The least priced P67 mobo was ~9.5k.

The i5 2500k @ 11.25k is excellent VFM. You wont be sacrificing much by going for this. Get this and the Gigabyte P67A-UD3R~9.5k.

GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 1155 - GA-P67A-UD3R (rev. 1.0)

6SATA ports. 2 6Gbps and 4 3Gbps. Wait for the revised mobos to hit the stores. It could be as late as end of April though in India.

Else the Asus P8P67 Pro ~ 12k. Has 4 SATA 6Gbps and 4 SATA 3Gbps ports.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - ASUS - ASUS P8P67 PRO

Re: Procci + Mobo Upgrade :

Thanks Darkangel ...

Can we see sandybridge prices falling by the time revised mobos come out ?? kinda like 7 number more than 5 :P

Asus mobo perfectly match my requirements :)

Cant predict really. Even the i5 2500K will be a hell of a lot of upgrade from the E6600 :P The only difference is the i5 lacks HT and 2MB cache and clocked 100MHz lower.

IMHO the price difference of ~4.5k+ between the two is too high for what the i7 2600K brings to the table.

Hmm , so what do you say ?? Should I wait till April for the rectified mobos ?

Re: Procci + Mobo Upgrade :

^^

Wait as by then hopefully AMD will release Bulldozer review samples and then you can decide which path you want to go down.

Definitely yes. Esp. since you have to use the SATA 3Gbps ports as you have 3-4 HDD's + ODD. Also if you buy them now then you will have be without a PC for about 7-10 days in April.

The procedure in US is to give the old defective mobo to the reseller and wait for new one. Even in US they predict a 7-10 days turn over time. So not sure how long it will take in India.

Alright then , will put the upgrade on hold ... Dankeschön guys !

Re: Procci + Mobo Upgrade :

Hello again ! My budget is increased to 30k now ... Sticking to i7 2600k , and interested in Z68 mobo coz i dont trust my Palit HD4850 :P ... What options do I have ?? Thought of Asus P8Z68 DELUXE but doesn't have Video Out !! Help me to select mobo :)

The only board that's getting fair reviews as of now is Asus P8Z68 Pro. Wait for few weeks. Let all of them get benchmarked and then we'll get them( yeah, I'm also buying one ).

Learning German or are you a practised speaker of the same.

u might as well wait for the z68 chipset. multiple gpu support and Lucid's virtu technology.. way better than p67 boards:D

yeah , Z68 it has to be !

the Z68 Chipset boards are already shipping in the US Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, Motherboards, Intel Motherboards, Intel Z68

Got to wait a little longer before it arrives in India and in the mean time brush your mind whether to choose from AMD's upcoming offing or INTEL

Not a AMD Procci Fan (Their GPUs r cool ;) ) Lesse !

Get Core i5 2500k + MSI P67 GD55 OR Gigabyte UD3, whichever you get, get the B3 revision. The combo will set you back approx 19.5-21.5k or so.

But you won't regret it and it will easily be 3-4 times the power of your current E6600.

why not so?

How about getting

CPU - Intel i5 2500K ~ 11000

Mobo - Gigabyte P67X-UD3R (8 Sata Ports + SLI + CFX Support) ~ 10 - 10.5K

GPU ~ MSI HD6850 ~ 9500

Total = 30500

?

Arre bro , since my Palit 4850 is replaced thrice and its out of warranty now , I would like mobo to support onboard gfx too just in case ... Thats why I'm more inclined towards Z68

maybe coz i have never used AMD procci :)

+1 to hades thats a pretty good config.

Thats a god config Hades , thanks :) ...

Reason I want to go with i7 2600 is I wont be upgrading for 3-4 years now . So isnt top on the line i7 sandybridge(currently) better than i5 ?

I dont want P67 since I dont trust my currnt gfx card , it may trip anytime ! And m not in a hurry to replace it (can play most of the games @ mid high settings :))...

So I guess ASUS P8Z68 V PRO is best Z68 alternative right now ... Gigabyte ones dont have display out :(

What about the RAM guys ?? Wich one is better ?

Also ambient temps here are ~30 Degree Celsius , So it is recommended to get custom cooler or intel stock cooler will do the job well ?

Not by a margin that justifies the price difference, i5 2500 is the processor of choice now. Best VFM. For 5k PREMIUM(~45% extra money) i5 2600K offers HT, 2MB extra L3 cache(8MB vs 6MB) and 100MHz more stock speed!(3.4GHz vs 3.3GHz)

AnandTech - Bench - CPU

And you can easily OC the i5 2500K to ~4.3Ghz-4.4GHz when you feel the need for more power. Better to invest the ~5k in some other component or just save it for later upgrades.
