PS3 price drops

They don't. Some of Xbox games just vanish alltogether. Example being Assassin's Creed 2, Smackdown vs Raw 2011, Red Dead Redemption etc ... Not able to find these games anywhere, not even in grey market. Newer games are not a problem but old classics are. I had to literally search through more than 20 shops before i got my hands on Red Dead Redemption and that too at a premium.

Most retailers rarely stock the older titles. Once the stocks are over, they may not bother replenishing it since they know that the sales of that title may not be good post a particular time frame since many of us would be selling the game discs as second-hand sales. However you might still be able to find a copy retailing at its MRP at Croma and other stores.

Btw Red Dead is still available at Intencity :p - Intencity - Red Dead Redemption [Xbox 360]

x360key - Play all your Xbox 360 games from any USB drive!

@Ethan : I got a close friend 360 a few weeks back. He is also my neighbor so I can pretty much use his console any time I want. I am thinking of getting myself a PS3 in a couple of months, waiting for an LED for my room first although I can connect the console to my 23" monitor but I guess a 40" LED would be more appropriate. :p

@Gannu : You are right, but even sites like flipkart, nextworld etc do not stock it these days. Croma is shit as far as 360 games are concerned, it stocks almost all old and new PS3 titles but only stocks a select few 360 titles. This is the case with 3 major croma outlets near my residence.

Red Dead Redemption has been re-stocked on 16th August because of high demand, 1 month ago there wasn't any stock at any gaming website. Fortunately, I got it a few days back at a very small local shop near the place at which I hang out. I highly recommend these sites for game purchases though, just a few days back my friend was about to get Splinter Cell Conviction from croma for 2499, I checked it out on flipkart and got it for Rs. 899.

^Yeah the problem is Croma retails it at the MRP fixed by the distris. Sadly nothing can be done. When Prashant (Intencity) used to be a dealer here, he gave good discounts on pre-orders and some goodies like tees and posters as well.

Yeah, I was wondering what happened to him.

Was there some problem or he just got busy with Intencity?

His dealership expired, the PS3 mods turned up (you know the rest!) and he probably did not want to renew the dealership.

Regarding other Pros and cons, I have pretty much made up my mind to invest in a PS3 because at the end of the day its the hardcore games which matter and PS3 exclusives simply outnumber and outperform Xbox exclusives. Besides, a blu ray player is nice.

Check out at IVG forums you will find lots of 360 game sellers as well as members

Sony’s $50 price cut on the PS3 is paying off - SlashGear

Slashgear said:
A couple days back Sony announced that it was slashing the price of the PS3 console by $50 globally to help ramp sales of the console. Apparently a few days is all it took to find out that the $50 price cut was a very good move on Sony’s part. The PS3 has in the last few days become the best selling console on Amazon. The PS3 and some of its games climbed up to grab four of the top five spots on the Amazon Movers & Shakers list.

With the new price cut, the asking price for the 160GB PS3 is now $249 with the price of the 320GB unit dropping to $299 and the same price applies to a 320GB bundle that has Infamous 2. Spending on video games is reportedly down as much as 5% this year compared to last year when the economy was at its worst. The prediction is that Microsoft will make a price cut on its Xbox 360 as well.

I guess UC3 won't work on JB PS3 so its time to get another one and run legit games only on that :p

Old Slim can house over well over 25 games since I upgraded the HDD to 750 GB (Waiting for bigger one) .. so life is good :D

Sony had to make this decision , Xbox 360 will take a huge lead after Gears of war III and this is only in the wake of it . I was expecting a price drop but that was during the holiday season and not now . All in all , good for Sony . Lets see if the prices for Xbox comes down a bit or not .

Debatable. Like any other topic for that matter.

The way I see it, as long as you pay for a title and sell it off after a playthrough or two, you do not lose much. Unless you have a habit of collecting these titles. Besides you need to understand that most titles being sold in our country is priced very very competitively compared to the US. You can see for yourself if you compare the Flipkart pricing vis-a-vis Amazon pricing for a game. I am sure even if a good title was to cost somewhere around the 200 INR mark, most folks would rather prefer pirating it.
Drifting OT again, but you cannot price a form of media competitively to US. International novels have an Indian edition, we dot pay 15-20 USD for a movie ticket (but its getting dangerously close). Pricing a game at 3k in India, just does not make sense.

PC games have started a much more realistic pricing in India, which actually increased their sales.

If you weren't aware of the recent prices of the upcoming console games, here you go:

Uncharted 3:

US - 60 USD - Amazon.com: Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception: Playstation 3: Video Games

India - Rs. 2450 (with a free 4GB thumb drive! :p) - Letsbuy.com: Buy Uncharted 3: Drakes Deception

Gears of War 3:

US - 60 USD - Amazon.com: Gears of War 3: Xbox 360: Video Games

India - Rs. 2200 - Letsbuy.com: Gears Of War 3 XBOX 360

Resistance 3:

US - 60 USD - Amazon.com: Resistance 3: Playstation 3: Video Games

India - Rs. 2450 (with a free 4GB thumb drive plus a Resistance 3 Tee! :p) - Letsbuy.com: Resistance 3 PS3

Not to mention some dealers (for instance those at IVG forums) give decent discounts for pre-orders. Ofc nothing beats the pricing for PC titles but still these are indeed some realistic pricing IMO.

Price cut is a nice move by Sony as after their PSN outage most of the gamers were debating moving over to Xbox though MP on X360 requires a paid subscription. Only remaining thing which Sony needs to do is improve the PS3 controller design in their upcoming consoles :p
