If you are a avid reader of the forum you just mentioned, than your game has to be Heavenly Sword. :P

And thank you so much for telling me that 60GB models are out of production. Was such a useful information.

No point arguing when you are just pushing the point across. My last post on this thread!!

And BTW: The 65nm and 90nm Cell unit have a 32watt difference, which means only 16.66% power efficiency over the previous model (192 watts for 90nm PS3). I don't know how your PS3 had so much difference in heat ratios. Again, might be one special unit. :P

I didn't understand what you mean. My PS3 conked off after a lengthy session of Heavenly Sword. I mentioned the same on GamingIndians too. There are several other stressful games like COD4 which caused SOD.

Good, better that way than suggesting purchase of out-of-production and trouble prone PS3 60GB to people when they have no idea of the trouble people had to go through to get a replacement for it in spite of the warranty.

regardless of the power consumption, there is a significant difference in the heat generation, I was myself surprised at first, but anyone who had used both models will confirm that. I at first thought that the 40GB model is not dissipating heat properly, but there should be a huge heat build up if that is the case which I think is not happening.

That was a sarcastic comment... :rofl:Like anyone doesn't know 60GB is outta of production? It was seized from production in July 2007, only stock with sellers/resellers was available all this one year.

Although I said I won't comment, but couldn't resist.

I know you were being sarcastic, but my reply was specifically for this

Justin,wats wrong with u?

My problem is that he said that "Avoid PS3 60GB at all costs". It should have been "Buy it with care, it has SOD problem" or "Search for SOD issues before buying 60GB version" or anything. I am not misleading anyone. PS3 60GB is the most liked version of the 4 versions and is considered the most complete.

See this:

Yahoo! Answers - What is the best version of PlayStation 3 to purchase?

Before You Buy a PlayStation 3: Which PS3 Should You Buy?

My 4 friends are using 60GB PS3. And 2 of them are using it for more than 1 year without problems. I myself have Heavenly sword and I have played it for hours without problem.

I didn't wanted to get into a flame war with Nemesis or company. Peace.

whats the price of PS3 in white and grey market.

and does it rrquired to be modded for playback here?

if yes where can it be modded ?

does it support ps2 games.

sorry for the noob questions but one of my friend wants to purchase and i am not into this field

TIA

Delhi:

PS3 (white): 24,990.00 for 40GB and 29,990.00 for 60GB

PS3 (grey): 18k for 40GB, don't know the price of 60GB in grey

If you buy from showroom (white) then you can also play the games brought from the showroom only. If you want to play games which are pirated, you will have to get it modded. Although PS3 is a little tricky and risky from what I heard. As I believe you are not in Delhi, I can't tell you where you can get it modded.

40GB is not compatible with PSX/PS2 games. 60GB is.

huh... Where did you get that from? :S I don't think you can mod a PS3 to play pirated PS2 games.

Hardware based PS2 support is present only in the 20GB and 60GB NTSC Models. PS3 60GB PAL and 80GB NTSC models provide support through software emulation.

PlayStation 3 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It was also stated by one Sony representative that if they feel like it, they can re-introduce the software emulated PS2 compatibility in any PS3 model through just a firmware update, but that they are not going to do it.

Everything aside, I have played God of War 2 on the PS3 when I had the PS3 60GB and it was close to horrible. If one really wants PS2 playback, it would be a lot better to get a separate PS2.

Justin and others: let's not go on about this. The point in short is that the Spin of Death (SOD) problem that people have experienced happen basically with the old 60GB version. So it's best to stay away.

40GB v. 60GB v. 80GB is a mook point as the hard drive is expandable either by substituting the drive itself for a larger 2.5" drive (a friend of mine put 250GB in and it works perfectly!) or by adding an external hard drive via USB. Eithe way it's seamless.

And as far as backward compatibility goes, I think thats quite a useless feature. PS2 games look god awful on a ps3 + HDTV. So why waste time talking about it? If someone really wants to play ps2 so much chances are that they will already own one.

So with the above two points in mind, it seems rather silly to risk SOD problems (annoying even if you have a warranty).

I am just questioning your below mentioned claim.
If you want to play games which are pirated, you will have to get it modded. Although PS3 is a little tricky and risky from what I heard. As I believe you are not in Delhi, I can't tell you where you can get it modded.

I at first thought that you were talking about playback of pirated PS2 games, but If you are saying that about PS3 games, then its even more ridiculous. There are no mods for playing pirated PS3 games. The best the PS3 modding scene has come up with is to make a unprotected/ripped PS3 game data to run run of the HDD on a PS3 equipped with debugging version of firmware. those things do not run on the regular firmware released to the public.

Apart from that, PS3 cannot be modded to play pirated PS2 games either. The only way to play PS2 games on a PS3 is to get legit versions belonging to the same region type.

I am just asking this out of curiosity, can you post a link/info supporting your claim that PS3 modding is being done for common usage. At least there is no way to get unprotected dumps of PS3 games as yet.

I don't have a modded PS3 that why I posted this...

Although PS3 is a little tricky and risky from what I heard.

And can you cut the crap? I replied on vebk's post thinking we are uselessly arguing, and your claim that 60GB are risky is valid, but still!!? Don't take things in a personal perspective.

Chill. Relax.

Actually there is a way mate .. but it involves drilling a hole in your ps3  and installing a switch and .. you also need SWAP MAGIC for ps2 ..
Lemme know if you need a link to a tutorial ..

kewl. Didn't know that. :) I don't have a 60GB PS3 anymore, but anyway, I buy legit versions of games for all three platforms (PC, PS3 and XBOX 360), so no special interest in modding my console. :D However if anyone else is interested, plz post the link.

Who said I am arguing with you, its just that some of the stuff you posted was mis-leading. So I am just questioning them for general good. I have no issues with you and It's you who has been taking it personally and making somewhat rude and sarcastic replies. So just relax. ;)

Hey LN, thanks to mine and yours "heated" discussion :P, I found a fact about the SOD problem you mentioned, cause it had me worried too about my 60GB version: Only two specific firmware versions, 2.01 and 2.17, were causing the problem. Can you help with the checking?
