Hello all,

I am a newbie in this forum and m thrilled to see the info and help available here.

So, firstly, here's my rig:

AMD Phenom II X2 550 BE => X4 B50(Core Unlocked)
ASUS M4A88t-M LE mobo
Strontium 2GB DDR3 RAM
500GB SATA HDD
LG DVD-RW
300W cheap PSU
F&D F-203G 2.1 Ch Speaker System

Due to the unlocked cores, the cpu temps are 46C at idle and 65C at load(Prince Of Persia/Burnout-Paradise City) on ASUS Probe-II.

I stop the game at 65C to prevent cpu damage.

Also, I don't OC my CPU or GPU at all.

So I need to buy a CPU cooler and to provide enough power to it, a new PSU.

My max budget is Rs.3000 and would like to buy these from Mumbai.

I have shortlisted this combination which fits into my budget:

FSP SAGA II 400W
CM Hyper TX3

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, it would be good if anyone is selling used products(but in good condition).
Thanks a lot in advance!!! :)

Considering your budget the choices you have made are fine. I have friend who wants to sell his Hyper TX3, IMO still in warranty (The fan has).... Seasonic SS400 (80% bronze + 5 years warranty) at 2.1K is what you should consider......Corsair CX430 V2 is also an option to be considered to replace FSP 400..

It would be nice if you inform me at what price is ur friend selling Hyper TX3 at what price and how old is it?

Thanks for the help! :)

Yeah, I will let you know via PM. He is a TE member (aks_rokr), he was going to get a Zalman CNPS extreme cooler to replace his hyper tx3.... You may PM him directly if you wish too :)

Can you let me know the per core temperatures of your proccy on full load.. You may check it from coretemp??

I will surely post per core temps in two-three hours.

I will PM aks_rokr after posting temps and having your opinion on that.

Thanks a lot!

Dude i don't think 65 degree's is too much for the CPU sincerely my Cpu also runs at 45 on ideal and it touches 80 on heavy load just take the heat sink off clean it and apply thermal paste ad install it you don't need a cpu cooler.

CoreTemp is not detecting my CPU correctly.

Phenom II X2 550 BE instead of X4 B50.

Dur to this its not displaying/logging CPU temps at all. Only CPU loads are displayed/logged.

Please help!

Unlocked processors aren't detected properly, so go into the motherboard BIOS -- shut off Core-Unlock feature, take reading for the dual core, add a 5 degree margin after core unlocking for the added heat generated as a rule of thumb.

If you get a cooler Master Hyper series cooler [either Hyper TX 3 / 212+] make sure you configure it in a push-pull format, to ensure you get the maximum out of them.

Here are some interesting articles on the process of using TIM, setting up a good airflow in your cabinet -->

Guide - How TIM Works & How To Apply It Correctly | bit-tech.net / SilverStone Technology Co., Ltd..

Hope this helps.

P.S. -- On a side note upgrade your SMPS ASAP, to me it seems to be the root of your problem [underpowered RIG].

Alpha : He told me via PM that he has some software called ASUS PC PROBE II which shows the CPU temp. Even I was convinced that many software dont read temperature after a proccy is unlocked.

Best way is to try and apply a good thermal paste before leaping for a new cooler.

Thanks chiragsthakur and ALPHA17!!!

I will try a new thermal paste and let you know.

BTW, should I buy a Gigabyte Superb 460W (used) bought in March-2011?

Thank you guys!!!

Gigabyte superb 460 at what price??? If your comments are under moderation you may PM me the price at which you are getting it.. I will let you know if its worth...

Finally, going on FSP SAGA II 400W and CM Hyper TX3.... will post after buying them!

P.S.: Should I consider selling my current PSU or keep it for my future antique museum? ;)

OOOOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK.....

Finally bought FSP SAGA II 400W@Rs.1900/- and CM Hyper TX3@Rs.1250/- from TheITWares shop :ohyeah:

Thanks a lot to all you guys for your suggestions:clap:....( esp. chiragsthakur :cool2: )

But I am only half way there...

Now the placement/orientation of the cooler in my good old cabinet....

My current layout is attached....:)[attachment=10287:17167.attach]

As you are using a normal cabby with top mounted PSU, then the fan has to suck in hot air from inside the cabinet, coz no other way to avoid it, as you cannot mount the PSU such that the fan can be in upper area coz you wont have air vents on top of your cabby... its OK if your PSU sucks in hot air in thsi case, cant avoid it, unless you make some air vents on top side of your cabby...

But this will increase the temps of PSU which will reduce efficiency and reliability.

I was thinking of making a 120mm sized hole on the top and placing a wire-mesh in between the PSU and the panel to reduce dust....:)

What say?
