Car & Bike Pulsar 180 or Unicorn???

Dude get a 180 , unicorn is too outdated n sluggish n if u wanna buy any other 150 cc bike then get a FZ & bajaj's reliability is as good as honda's. Btw i have noticed that rear body joints over d tailight of unicorn r not fitted properly n start to come off very easily .

^It is a fill it ,shut it ,ride it kind of bike.congrats. :)

BTW ,I sold off my bull few months back and contemplating to buy a bike soon.

Nope. Use occasionally !
Continuous usage of premium fuel isn't recommended unless explicitly specified by the manufacturer.

@ thetoxicmind and avi_avadhut..

I daily drives up to 80-90km,, so would it be good o service in 3 motnhs.. if not.. please tell me after how many Kms..i shd go for service.

Pulsar 180! raw masculine power in that machine! and a good solid build.

unicorn will start to rattle and cry after a few weeks. personal experience with lots of bikes, so i know. :)

the only thing that i didnt like in unicorn is the gearbox,,makes noise,,,for pulsar its smooth,,but there r many other problems in pulsar!!:D

I think whatever you have said about the Uni here is exactly opposite and it applies to Pulser only.

But If I would be given choice then I would opt for P180, for the looks and power :)

Edit: Bleh.. where was i?? i guess someone said something wrong about Uni? :p

I suppose these are free services?

Your service manual should mention the interval at which you have to give it for service.

It could either be a few months from the date of purchase or beyond XXXX KM reading.

After the free services are over, get it serviced every 3-6 months depending on the need/urgency.

Take care of your ride and she'll be faithful to you. ;)

i totally agree with this one. Ive experienced this myself.

Recently, i was thinking of upgrading to a new bike just for the sake of it (as ive grown older and hence need a meaner machine :p), maybe a R15 or something. Then parents advised i should rather stick to my current bike, n buy a personal car in some time.

Anyways, then i thought about refreshing my 6yr old pulsar which i drive daily. I took it to the service center n told them to make it as good as new:

They changed many cosmetic/electrical parts...

Also, they advised me to change the Piston kit if i wanted to get rid of the minor issue: Engine stops after 10sec if left idling continously around or below 1200 rpm.

After fitting the new piston kit, and receiving back my old one, i saw the piston head was somewhat burnt out. When i asked the expert about it, he told me that Ive been using premium fuel and pushing the bike, hence the heat produced in the cylinder is slightly over the limit.

Since then, Ive stopped using premium fuel, and hence advising the same to you :)

guys.... read honda manual.... it says octane 93 category petrol.
extra premium is octane 93 thats why i use it. i am using it since 5 years.... and no problem at all. i use my bike daily for 60 kms and always with 60-80 as speed range and i still get 55+ as average.

nobody can say anything about gearbox. i love unicorn's gearbox compare to pulsor 180cc

whatever Free or not free.... if you want to take care of you bike then service after every 3-4 months is must.... even paid it will hardly cost you 250rs something. dont use this bike like pulsor or hero honda bike.
take care of it.

do you know when reguler service and good quality petrol helps ???
my bike is 5 year old and i still get 55+ avg with my riding style. and believe me i can take any 180cc pulsor up and down in long race. on NH4 :)
i go to my native place every 2-3 months on bike. 270km in less than 3 hours.
almost 12 trips as of now and 3-4 times accompanied by friends with pulsor.
and i had to stop for them.... band pad gaya excess heat se.... and didnt start for 30 mins at least....

Actually, another reason is the formation of carbon deposits in the fuel delivery system. It reduces the efficiency and life of the engine.

One can always alternate between the two (Normal & Premium).

Like I mentioned earlier, refer to the vehicle manual and get a opinion from a Honda service mechanic.

50000+km n my 180 n still no trouble, dude forget unicorn n go for 180 (my personal opinion). The GB has significantly improved n u get d feel of raw power also d handling n dynamics has improved ,n now u can push harder in corners too. monoshox is of no use here n does not helps unicorn.its better off in R15 only. personally i feel, in terms of 150+ segment bajaj is d best followed by tvs.n dude bajaj's quality is top notch since few yrs .

actually i wud like to differ, one shud use premium fuels , these fuel with octane no more than 90+ help to suppress knocking which occurs @ high temp or high speeds so using a high octane petrol with few drops of engine cleaning reagent helps.:)

he has already bought unicorn, what's the use in suggesting now?.
As others said, its a no frill, no problem bike. Don't try to use it for racing.

The design has something to do with tail fittings as it tends to get loose its strength in a while. When I took the bike a year before, the mechanic at honda showroom insisted me to always use normal petrol and avoid premium. I'm not sure he is correct. Regardless the bike is running fine with a score 10k+ in a year.

I hv been using INDIAN OIL premium .. d

driving 4k-5k rpm at speed of 50-60 on highway.. else 40kmph..

does my driving habit is ruing my bike..?

hmm .. after one month of purchasing the pickup of my bike has slowed down little.. also.. sound of engine is nt much silent..
I guess you would have done with 1st service by this time, where they normally tend to increase the engine rpm a bit to get the engine settle quickly. The engine does sounds better in 3rd service and even better after final service.
