Hi all,

Firstly let me state my usage.

1. Gaming

2. Rendering (as a hobby but a lot)

3. Photoshopping

4. Movies (HD and all)

After July 22nd both these processors

E6850 and Q6600 will be for 266$ and so for the same cost in india. Please tell me from these two which one should i go in for.

I am getting the P35 chipset and so future scope for adding 45nm will be there. So lets say i buy a particular one now and say 6 to 8 months down the line i want to switch to 45 nm. Then which one will be easier to sell off here at TE.

Also i have stated my usage. WHICH one will be better suited for my needs.

Please give me reasons for the same.

Heating wont be a serious issue as i will be buying a CPU cooler in case of Quad. :)

Thanks in advance.

I was abt to say E6850 when I saw gaming was ur primary requirement....but if you also do lot of renders then Q6600...Invest in a good cooler and push it to 3GHZ...

Q6600 all the way.

Crysis/UT3/Alan Wake/HL2:Ep2 etc etc etc.. All Multicore optimised.

encoding, rendering...
obviously the Q6600...

I am planning to buy a 8800 GTX and my comp will be primarily for gaming and HD encoding/re-encoding? Now shall I get the Q6600 or the E6850?

^ AFAIK its a bit improved version of earlier B3 stepping in terms of thermal dissipation. I think it would be a bit better for our Indian conditions. And I think it needs less voltage compared to earlier stepping (not sure).

B3 TDP - 105watts

G0 TDP - 95watts

It does not mean that in terms of heat generated, it throws out that much less. The thermal solution needs to handle less as per above specs. For real world temps, we have to wait and see.

Im not sure of any other change in the new stepping

For those who own a Quad 6600 currently, what are the kind of temperatures to be expected in typical Indian conditions (Room Temp~35C- no air conditioning) on air cooling (say on an Ultra -120)?
What happens if you OC to 3GHz
If there are any Bangaloreans, what are kind of tempertaures you get on air cooling?
The potential heat issue is making me jittery about considering the q6600 even though I own an Ultra 120 and a nice fan.
Thanks.
