CPU/Mobo Q6600 vs E8400

But wudnt games in 6months or so be made keeping in mind the Quads? Then wudnt a 3.6Ghz Quad do better than a Dual E83-84 @ 4Ghz??
 
everyone seemed to forget that the E8400 has support for SSE 4.1 and the Q6600 does not... for this reason i would go for the E8400... 4 cores will not totally be utalised

Forget all. I don't think any Q6600 will over clock equal to that as a E8400 for 24x7 use.

gona make it this month

also there's never stopping in pc scenario every 6 months smthing or other comes out ... its just btwen 6600 nd 8400 ..

i dont care about the 45nms quad nd nehalem's ..coz i wont wait that much :)

Dude, dont go fer the Q6600 cos its got 4 cores.. 've seen only games like UT3 n LP:EC benefittin from 'em..

The E8400 currently retails with one of its best batches tat o'erclock like a dream..

The Q6600 reaches a speed of around 4.4G with prolly DICE which the E8400 does with a TRUE...

i have to disagree completely!
a q6600 is bloody pointless for gaming and is a older generation cpu..
get a e8400, it will be a much more suiting buy..

and as for future proof.. a q6600 isnt exactly a good idea. as its not native quad-core, its just 2 e6600's stuck together..

if u truly want some thing tht will be sumwhat future proof then you have to go for the native intel quad-cores.

but as far as the discussion is concerned e8400 > q6600 in gaming anyday...

does intel even make native quads? or even in the near future? i wonder if nehalem will be native quad or MCM...
 
native or mcm .. does not matter as far as performance is there :) . phenom is native quad ..still not upto core2quad performance ..its no brainer that a fast dual core is what u need if ur into gaming as most game engines do not benefit going from two to four cores ..

if he is looking in that direction then e8400 is the way to go ..:)

I beg to differ. IMO felxibility is the key and with a quad core you have the option to multitask as your disposal like no dual core could ever give you. Why game when you can game and burn a DVD in the background?

For me once I went quad, I'd never go back to a dual core...
 
@vandal.. I think yogi7272 was talking exclusively from a gamers point of view. and as long as you're not playing crysis or neverewinter nights 2 on 2048 res and all options maxed out, I dont think either the DVD burning would suffer either.

For me, once I am playing the game, I've already burnt the DVD :hap2:
 
I am using the E8400 wolfdale for gaming and play crysis on full graphics .. without OC and its a piece of cake .. gleams thro like makkan !!
 
well i am planning to upgrade ... but my main work is VMware and run 4-5 operating systems as same time. now win 2008 i am not able to do this with 6400.
so should i go for 8400 or q6600 ??????

about gaming lol... i paly aoe only.... :)
 
well i could not find any where VMware uses 4 cores.....
if partuculer process we can assign cpu core for him but about vmware.... i just dont know if i am going to get benifit as i am not going to OC at all.

so E8400@stock vs q6600@stock == ?

also i am mixing one more question here... which is better between this -
6 GB ram @ 667 MHz - 2x2 GB + 2x1 GB or 4GB ram @ 800 MHz ????
which one will be better. my OS will be Vista x64 and main usage is VMware.
looking for loading more heavy operating systems like Windows 2008 server.

no plan to change mobo as waiting for Nehlam. would do upgrade of cpu + ram later next year.... right now please dont suggest new mobo + ram.

I think 4 GB of RAM is enough. Its not about VM ware, but a quad will multitask on even a single OS better (obvious ain't it?)
For gaming an E8400 would be better.
 
Well, majority of games at present doesnt benefit with Quad core, simply becoz games are not programmed to take advantage of Quad core CPU's.. I think, E8400 will do better, as he needs procy exclusively for gaming..:D:
