People waste $25 on a square foot of rubber and remain content with onboard sound, marketting at it's best.
kidoman said:also, did u know what OpenAL is a software emulation layer over OSS/DirectSound/ALSA and it does not directly access hardware? Thats why even my 2 yr old Realtec AC97 sound codec was supported by OpenAL.
Get your facts clear mate.........

What I mean is all the 3D Audio processing is done on CPU. This is the case with all onboard/VIA Envy24 etc based solutions.zhopudey said:So you mean all other cards will do the sound in CPU? Baaahhhhhh
What other games use OpenAl?

saumilsingh said:Nobody's forcing you to buy a dedicated soundcard, they make no difference in tourneys and if all your hardware purchases revolve around them then don't play quake4.
You get what you pay for, simple.
Tourneys organisers don't know the first thing about gaming, they are more concerned with sponserships and making money.
I've seen how cpl officials go on crying for hours how they won't allow custom mouserates because changing from 125hz to 500hz requires the herculean task of sitting through 1 reboot.
They go on to make excuses like not everyone uses 500hz, sure while you're at it force everyone to play with their right hand.
People play best at what they are used to, each comp should be allowed to use custom hz, mice, pads, keyboards, a private cubicle, any damn thing it takes to allow the player to play at his/her best.
Forcing everyone down to the most common denominator is retarded.
And no all that isn't too much to ask for, look at motorsports, they treat their drivers like babies.
