Question regarding my "4K" Mi TV.

Hey guys,

So i bought this 50 inch TV from Mi store like 3 years ago. The website claims that it's a 4k TV as seen in the screenshot but when I connect it to my PC, it natives to 1080p and if I check the resolution on the TV itself (without PC) using AIDA64, it also reports that the TV is indeed 1080p.

Am I missing something here? I always mean to ask this question out of curiosity but I always forgot as I don't watch TV at all.

Anyways, someone has an idea as to why it's this way? What kind of sorcery is this?

I assume you used a HDMI cable? Can you check the version of HDMI the display supports?

I am not sure as it doesn't seem to be listed in the spec sheet. I used hdmi yes, that's the only input port it has from PC

Which HDMI cable are you using? Maybe the HDMI cable doesn't support 4k@60 Hz.

I don't know which cable it is. Perhaps that's the issue but i somehow doubt it at the same time as AIDA64 installed on the MI TV itself reports it as 1080p.

Can you go to TV settings and check if the resolution is at 4k ? Maybe it is locked in 1080p ?
Also when connecting laptop with hdmi cable, check what is the resolution in windows settings, try changing it to 4k (3840 x 2160).

We have a cheap 4k TV from Mitashi, I used to think that it was 1080p since everything looked bad on it, when connecting using setup box. I thought we got scammed (getting FHD tv instead of 4k). Only when I finally connected laptop to it and changed display to 4k did i realize it is indeed 4k. I think your panel is 4k, but is somehow locked in 1080p now.

Yes I can manually change the resolution to 4k when connected to PC but if it doesn't default to 4k it usually means the panel itself is not 4k.

Anyway I didn't see any settings that can change resolution on the tv itself. I will check it again later. Thanks btw

I dont think that is true. The TV in my home defaults to 1080p, only when i change settings does it do 4k. I have observed this when connecting my laptop and PC.
Someone else can share their experience too.

First try running the TV at 4K30, instead of 4K60, from the laptop.

If that works then it means its a bandwidth issue. Could be due to 3 reasons mainly :
1. Cable is limited
2. Current HDMI port is bandwidth limited (try changing HDMI In ports)
3. The laptop can only output at 4K30. This is usually the case if you are using a dongle to hook up the TV. Try getting a higher quality dongle in this case, or a discrete USB-C -> HDMI adaptor.

I don't know why you guys keep mentioning laptop xD it's a PC with Ryzen 5 3600 and GTX 970. Yes, it's capable of 4k display@60hz.

It's possible that the cable must be the issue but then as I have mentioned, it doesn't explain why AIDA64 installed on the TV itself reports that it's a 1080p panel.

The tv is at home and I am not at home, will have to check with different cable and see if that's the issue.

Apparently Android TV UI is rendered at 1080p and AIDA64 can only report the current UI resolution. So it shows 1080p.

This is pretty much universal, you'll find many questions on various forums regarding the same. It shows 1080p on my Vu 4k TV as well. But when I connect my gaming PC to it, it defaults to 4k.
