Storage Solutions Raid 0 vs. Fast HDD

I have two spare seagate 250gb hdd.
shall I go for raid0 or sell these two and get faster 32mb cache 500gb hdd(seagate 7200.11).
 
Performance is obviously better off the RAID 0 setup, but all the data gets owned should anything go wrong, so you might need to back stuff up frequently.
The Seagate 500GB w/ 32MB buffer is just more dependable.
Its a matter of what you prefer more with all the random power cuts in India.
 
i wouldnt recommend raid 0 for stoarage.

if u dnt mind using that setup only for OS then go ahead wid it.

alternatively... if u use that only for OS then probably u hav alot of space to let go...:P so the better option would be raid 1...

faster n safer ;)

ultimately it comes to whats important... speed, safety, or space..

raid0 = speed+space

raid1 = speed+safety

normal way = space+safety*



safety* = safety of the data in the other drive if one goes kaput..provided both dont go bad simultaneously:P

so decide accordingly..

Correction

Raid0 = High speed + zero reliability
Raid1 = Highest reliablity + half the space (No high speeds mind you)
Normal = Normal :lol:
 
go for raid 0 and put all games etc you want to play and OS..

put all data on another drive..buyin new drive whatsoever wont give you raid 0 performance.

say me an idiot, but i'm using raid 0 myself 250x2 16 mb cache hdds and its been fine since a year and my computer stays switched on always. *touchwood*

More correction:
Raid1= Highest reliablity + half the space+ double read speed ( read happens from both drives ).

If you are planning to run OS on it get a new 500 gig drive. Raid doesn't increase access times but only i/o bandwidth. You can copy/paste stuff alot faster under raid 0, but as specified above.. 50% less reliability if any drive fails.
 
i thaught raid 1 is only for backup. and raid 0 is for speed.

i have asus motherboard(p5q-e) with drive expert, it support raid 0 but no idea about the raid 1.

Is raid 0 = raid 1 in terms of speed?
 
In simple words ,read this

RAID 0 --- speed (performance )

RAID 1 --- data prevention (backup) -- Good for servers,few ppl use them.

RAID 0 --- is good for game loading times , read , write etc

whats ur actual requirement ???

RAID 0 EQUALS to performance of raptor series of WD,

performance wise it will perorm much better than 500GB WD,seagate.

Also read it some were that ,RAID does better with INTEL (matrix) chipset mobo rather than Nvidia , ati and sis. Not sure though.
