Will need new motherboards. Also, the memory controller in the CPU also needs to support it.
Alder lake (intel 12xxx) will support both BUT motherboards will define which may be used based on slot type.

I was wondering if DDR5 launch will have any impact on pricing of 32gb ddr4 single stick rams.
Pin number is same but pinouts and locations have changed.
Afaik DDR5 modules wont work on DDR4 sockets and vice versa.
