Just a rant as a retailer. I have had enough actually. Most of you would have heard about TAG - Technology & Gadgets and their wonderful RMA incidents. This is just another one of them.

A customer of mine came back to me today with a 2 Year old Galaxy 8600GT OC, purchased in Nov 2007. The card went dead 2 days ago and i sent him to TAG's centre (HQ) in Lamington Road.

On reaching there, he was told that the warranty wont be given as a "TAG" sticker was missing. The card had all the stickers that came default, including galaxy's as well as the serial no. sticker. He called me from there and told me about the incident. I talked to them and asked them to match teh serial numbers on the card and their system and to give the warranty on a serial number basis as everyone else does. Now here is the biggie, according to them, they have no serial number records whatsoever, and the warranty is only based on a TAG sticker, which we can't be sure if they even put up behind the card. as he does not have the original bill from TAG. I even scanned the bill which I had recd. from TAG on purchase. Then the guy tells me since the serial number is not on the bill, again no warranty. 2 minutes back, the same guy had told me that they don't keep serial number records, and now he is saying the lack of serial number on the receipt means no warranty. Now my argument is, if they did put a sticker, which is not there now, it means the card had been tampered with before sale, which i guess the distris are not allowed to do. And if they did not put the sticker on the card, then well, they are just trying to avoid the warranty. Since it is my reputation also at stake, and i am obliged to help my customer at all points, i threatened the guy with a Customer Court case on my customers behalf. And the guy, very haughtily asked me to do whatever teh hell i want to as he won't give the warranty. Later on, i found out the guy was Mr. Vikas Gupta, the owner of TAG :P. Wow, now that's how you run a company, ain't it ?

Well, i have already email Galaxy Tech abut the issue, and am awaiting a reply. In the meantime this is just an awareness and a Rant thread about TAG and their products.

So folks, beware.

^ Hope I don't end up as the biggest "looser"

I'm owning a Galaxy GTX 260.. I still remember Phoenix asking me to update him about the warranty.. fingers crossed :(

Hearing abt TAG for the first time. Thanks for the information. Will keep this in mind. You must educate your dealer friends about TAG's ways of business.

i have owned a galaxy 8800gt 512mb -- which incidentally completed its 2nd birthday today!!

have had their harddrive casings as well-------have used their service center--they were kind to me and gave me a new casing on the spot.

but thanks for the info anyways!!!

will strike off the brands/products they sell from my next upcoming purchase.

btw i am having bad experiment at galaxy 6600 GT 128 mb ddr3

the card fan is not working due to the fan stop psing and it running overheating after 1 day i bought it

i sent the card for replacement under warrnty and i agrue the dealer about the card he gave me replacement 7300 GT 256 mb ddr2 and i was disappointing the rma card 4 year ago :|

Had met Vikas Gupta a few times when he was heading BigByte, had got a Club 3D 9800 Pro and a 9600XT from him, spent quite a bit of time chatting and the rma experience wan't bad either ... sad to hear about him employing such tactics to avoid providing warranty.

Ive met Vikas Gupta and he is worst seller ever... he doesnt have any respect and courtesy to talk to their customers.. his nature totally sucks like his TAG brand..

So does that mean we should not buy any Galaxy branded graphics card in india anymore as these nuts are the distributors for it??

*Strikes off GALAXY 9800GT recommendation to friend*

Thanks for the heads up Phoenix. Didn't Galaxy have 5 years warranty on their cards sometime back? or was it Zotac? :S

Anyway which brand would you recommend for a smoother RMA transition?

Sorry if this offends any retailer

But the onus on keeping these sucking distris on check lies with the retailers.
Distris are always at the mercy of the retailers to sell their products

Retailers in an area would have some association or something and they need need to blacklist these distris for sometime, to teach them a lesson. Once their business gets affected, then they will come to terms

But most times, most resellers again go to the same distri for getting the stock irrespective of the dealings earlier, not worrying about the customer service and bad rep to them

At the end of the day, its the customers in India who always gets the raw deal
Happens with most distris

@Spectre - It's easier said than done. I personally agree with you, but not everyone will. That is why you see this thread. In the end it all comes down to money for most of the retailers (actually all of them).

Nothing new. Most distributors in India seem to be resorting to such tactics to avoid warranty service. They will do their best towards that. Often times, innocent retailers end up facing the music from customers.

That's why I have already come to the conclusion that even a thousand bucks extra for Warranty is not worth it in India. People would be better of buying cheaper from outside even if it is without warranty, than to pay for warranty here and when the time comes, either not get the service at all or spend more on phone calls and visits to persuade them to give replacement before you die of old age.

Actually, not every distributor is like that, and i am not talking about me :P

I will still stand by the warranty services provided by Tirupati Enterprises and a few handful others who give you good A.S.S. But i also recommend every person here and outside, to make sure you get a proper proof of purchase from your dealers at any time, instead of saving a few 100 bucks now.

OK. Go on. Keep the discussion up. Moi have to go out to handle my own distribution :P Also i would like to have a few recommendations on how to handle ASS to every-one's liking so that i personally don't make a mistake in the future.
