I don't have a lot to speak about this franchise, apart from the fact that I have played just Deadlocked on the PS2 in co-op and absolutely loved it. ;)

I had tried the demo for both; Tools of Destruction and Crack in Time. Now it's time to pick up the full game and finally start off with Tools of Destruction. If I'm not mistaken Andy, you must have completed all the RnC games till now, right? I want to know what's the length of ToD? I saw the IGN Guide and it seemed freakin' huge. :fear:

I also found Sugat slowly snagging a copy of 'Quest for Booty' from the Market section. So share your experience with the game dude. ;)

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

All three games are brilliant.

Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction - 12 hours

Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty - 4 hours

Ratchet and Clank: A Crack in Time - 11 hours

That was what it took me to beat each game. Quest for Booty is pretty good fun, but short. (I do have it on disc. Couldn't bring myself to pay for it as DLC).

Some people have been put off by the puzzles in the Clank section of Crack in Time. Don't skip them. Put some time into each puzzle, it is very satisfying completing them.

Also, give yourself a few weeks between each game. (More if possible.). I can see how playing all three very soon after each other can be a little too-much-of-a-good-thing.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Perfect! I'll definitely not be skipping anything. I found the demo for Crack in Time to be really awesome. So I'm really looking forward to these titles. :)

What sort of side missions can I expect? Will I be playing as Clank at any point of time? Boss battles?

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Looking forward to the first 3 titles before All 4 One is out later this year end. I've seen some of the gameplay videos and was pretty impressed.

I generally tend to do that back to back. :ashamed:

But in this case I think I'll wait and give it a shot one at a time with sufficient gap in between.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Completed the first level for ToD and it was the same level which was given in the demo. 2 weapons to start out with; Combuster & Fusion Grenade. The weapon selection grid is similar to the one seen in Resistance FoM. Platforming was minimal in the first level, no puzzles encountered yet and definitely no boss fights. But this cut-scene just made me ROTFL!

Clank: "It is fortunate Cryo-sleep does not work on Robots, hehehe!"

*Boxing glove punches Clank*

You will be playing as Clank at various times. Those sections bring a nice change of pace in the middle of the games.

There are a few puzzles, nothing too complicated (or frustrating) though.

Some brilliant boss battles. Each boss battle has a mechanic and it's not just you having 5 health and the boss having 9000+ health.

Another suggestion. Explore all the weapons. Each weapon has various upgrades. Spread out your upgrades. Each weapon makes you play the game a bit differently. That is good fun.

@Gannu - I tend to do that as well. I played Uncharted 1/2 back to back. I plan to do that with Mass Effect as well. Thing is, Ratchet and Clank games and Mario games introduce so many mechanics in the middle of the games, I like to take my time. This way, the games won't blend into each other. :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

I have played TOD & Quest for Booty.

I loved both the games, they are colorful & easy to play. It's fun and gives you that...BGE feeling...but not that dark.

TOD is pretty lengthy...and will definitely take your time in direct missions.

Whereas I'e heard the puzzles in Crack in Time can get irritating, due to time travely thingy. Have to play that game yet.

Finished Top Spin4 career mode on Thursday, currently playing Yakuza 4 :D

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

The demo of Crack in Time showed how creative the puzzles were. We had to use this image recording of Clank and complete the puzzles. This was something very unique.

Any-hoo, do I have to manually save the game from the menu? I had played till a certain point of the 2nd level yesterday (till the checkpoint wheel popped below) and when I re-loaded the save, it started right from the beginning of the level. Also, why do I keep loosing my Combuster rifle & Fusion Grenades after I die and re-spawn? :S

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Completed Tools of Destruction a few minutes back and it was amazing. Had got all the weapons by the end, but majorly used Magma Combuster, Fusion Grenade, Plasma Beast & Nano-Swarmers. All of these were fully upgraded. Nano-Swarmers turned out to be my favourite tool of destruction. Had to use around 18 of it on the final boss. :P

Loved the humor and the variety of the locations. Enjoyed the levels where Clank had to take over and we had the Zoni assist us. The pirates level was hilarious, not to mention our pirate jig. :D

A must play for everyone. :)

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Forgot to mention. Completed Tools of Destruction on Sunday. Was almost 60% done. Completed the game on a marathon since I had to switch to CFW 3.55 and did not want to lose out on my progress. :ashamed:

The game is an awesome TP indeed. Good storyline, lengthy campaign (took me almost 10+ hours IIRC) and very good platforming sequences. I loved playing as Clank although the instances were very few and they were short! The Zoni were an awesome aid to Clank. Loved these tiny little creatures. The only shortcoming being the savepoints. Retarded save system! Sometimes I had to begin at the start of the level if Ratchet dies falling down some cliff or platform and had to re-do the entire level. I hope they have improved upon this in the later games.

The Pirate jig was also a pain at times to get those moves right. I couldn't get that front move whereas shaking the booty was easy. Had to do this a couple of times at each occasion.

Tachyon was one helluva boss! Had to rely on my Alpha Destructor and whatever stock of Groovitron and leech/mega-leech bombs I had. Had to face him at least half-a-dozen times. His last move was the most dangerous one when he begins firing a series of rockets - dropped a Groovitron at that time and he stopped doing that! Took my Alpha Destructor out and shove a bunch of those up his face. BAAM!

Will begin Quest for Booty sometime later.

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

The Nano-Swarmers were my favourite weapon in the later part of the game. I maxed it out. Helped a lot in boss fights and when there were multiple pesky enemies.

It was an over-powered weapon for the normal enemies, but Tachyon was the only person who stood his ground against this weapon. I had maxed out most of my weapons. Too bad, not a lot of them were used efficiently. :P

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Began Quest For Booty yesterday and it seems pretty good so far. The game takes us directly after the events of ToD when Clank is captured by the Zoni and Ratchet is going in search of him. There's not much change in the gameplay mechanics from ToD other than the ability to pull a bridge or lower a platform. The arsenal from ToD returns although Ratchet loses some of them en route to an island and gradually recovers them.

The first mission revolves around making 5 windmills operational and those were super fun. Some really nice platforming involved.

Should be completing the game today and might begin something else. Will give the last title a shot a couple of months later. :P

Awesome, and a couple of months after that, Ratchet and Clank All 4 One! (Maybe you guys will be up for a co-op session.) I need to fix my PS3 though. Have other games to play on it as well.

PS: 4 unique posters in this thread = perfect for All 4 One. :P

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

Completed the game. It was indeed short - took me not more than 5 hours. Was able to complete it in 2 sittings. The ending left me a bit flummoxed though. Nevermind, A Crack in Time will probably complete it. Will attempt the title after a couple of months. :)

Errrm how are we supposed to play co-op with our l33t haxed consoles? :ashamed:

@whats: What happened to your console?

One fine day, it just refused to turn on. No prior indications that it was about to die. So it is hopefully just a fuse replacement.

That's definitely sad. Was it the older phat model? What version was it anyway?

Re: Ratchet & Clank Series Discussion!

I think quest for booty was available as a free download to PSN users after the outage. How many of you'll downloaded the game?
